BASEBALL: Cimarron edges Palo Verde in eight innings

Trevor Doyle scored on a wild pitch with one out in the top of the eighth inning Thursday to help Cimarron-Memorial’s baseball team to a 2-1 win at Palo Verde.

After the Panthers tied the game on a solo home run by Blake Porter in the bottom of the seventh, Doyle led off the eighth with a triple to right field.

Following a ground out, Doyle raced home on a wild pitch.

Luis Flores was 2-for-4 and hit a sixth-inning home run for the Spartans, and Doyle finished 2-for-4 for Cimarron, which had just five hits.

Palo Verde starter Dylan Orlando struck out 10 in 5 2/3 innings.

Porter was 2-for-3, and Mitchell Rathbun went 2-for-2 for Palo Verde, which had just six hits.

Arbor View 2, Legacy 1 — At Arbor View, Ryan McHale belted a 2-0 fastball over the left-field wall for a walk-off home run with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting the Aggies over the Longhorns.

Jayce Gardner was 2-for-3, and Brandon Stevens doubled for Arbor View. Logan Martinez threw a five-hitter to get the win.

Diego Portillo had a single and a run for Legacy.

Desert Oasis 4, Durango 3 — At Desert Oasis, Aaron Roberts’ two-out single to right field scored Bryson Stott with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Diamondbacks nipped the Trailblazers.

Stott drew a walk to start the bottom of the seventh and advanced to second on a wild pitch. One out later, Brett Brocoff was intentionally walked, and after a fly out, Roberts lined a single to right field.

Roberts finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Desert Oasis.

Brocoff and Jake Lucas combined on a four-hitter for the Diamondbacks.

Shadow Ridge 9, Bonanza 4 — At Shadow Ridge, Trevin Reynolds went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and the Mustangs scored all of their runs in the first three innings on their way to a win over the Bengals.

Quinn Ayers was 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Koby Millner went 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for Shadow Ridge.

Torren Brozovich was 2-for-4 with a run, and Eric Schultz had a solo home run for Bonanza.

Faith Lutheran 9, Clark 4 — At Clark, Brandon Davis was 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs to help the Crusaders down the Chargers.

Sagan Gronauer was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Faith Lutheran.

Matthias Blodgett went 2-for-4 with a double for Clark.

Spring Valley 17, Mojave 1 — At Mojave, Shayne Watkins went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Jaxson Otis was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI as the Grizzlies routed the Rattlers in five innings.

Antony Vazquez was 3-for-3, and Jonathan Bakken went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Spring Valley, which also got three RBIs from Michael White.

Bryce Bullock tossed a three-hitter and struck out four for Spring Valley.

Reese McClain was 2-for-2 for Mojave.

Pahrump Valley 11, Western 1 — At Pahrump, Parker Hart went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs as the Trojans defeated the Warriors in five innings.

Drew Walker was 2-for-2 with two runs, and Aaron Fuentes went 1-for-1 and scored three runs for Pahrump.

Winning pitcher Garret Lucas allowed one run on one hit in four innings. He struck out six.

Armando Marrero doubled and scored for Western.

Sierra Vista 3, Cheyenne 0 — At Cheyenne, Blake Kaplan and David Perez combined on a one-hitter as the Mountain Lions blanked the Desert Shields.

Kaplan allowed the hit and walked three but struck out 10 in six innings. Perez struck out the side in the seventh.

Kaven Alferez had two hits and an RBI for Sierra Vista.
