BASEBALL: Durango erases 10-run deficit, beats Bonanza

Things didn’t start well for Durango’s baseball team on Friday, as the Trailblazers gave up 10 runs in the top of the first.

A nine-run sixth inning made sure the ending was much better, as Durango rallied for a 23-16 home win over Bonanza.

The game was tied at 14 heading to the bottom of the sixth.

Justin Lucas was 4-for-4 with a double, a home run and six RBIs to lead the Durango offense.

Duke Pahukoa was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs, and Richard Mascarenas had two doubles and two RBIs for Durango.

Josh Barry had a double, a triple and three RBIs, and Ryan Barry doubled twice and drove in a run for the Trailblazers.

Durango reliever Jacob Bavaro entered in the first inning and gave up three earned runs in 5⅔ innings to get the win.

Bonanza’s Julian DeLeon went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Torren Brozovich was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, Danny Ruiz went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Matthew Cox was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Bengals.

Rancho 6, Canyon Springs 5 — At Rancho, the Rams allowed five runs in the seventh, but held on to top the Pioneers.

Rancho’s Tanner Ray tossed six shutout innings to earn the win. Joey Walls got the final three outs to earn a save.

Matthew Baughn went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs for the Rams. Walls went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Anthony Guzman was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Rancho.

Canyon Springs’ Quentin Barton went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Rachard Davis was 1-for-3 with three RBIs for the Pioneers.

Sierra Vista 5, Boulder City 0 — At Boulder City, Alex Chavira threw 5⅓ shutout innings to lead the Mountain Lions over the Eagles.

Chavira gave up five hits, struck out eight and walked one. He left with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth with Sierra Vista leading 4-0. Hunter Wood came on and pitched 1⅔ hitless innings to get the save.

Cooper Kitrel was 2-for-4, and Nick Lasker and Chafton Temple each drove in two runs for Sierra Vista. Nick Morice was 1-for-2 with two runs for the Mountain Lions.

Nolan Herr went 2-for-2 for Boulder City.

Mojave 5, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Mojave, Mike Cianci threw five shutout innings to help the Rattlers top the Miners.

Cianci gave up four hits and four walks and struck out three. Scott Wilson allowed one hit in two innings of relief and also went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI for Mojave.

Rease McClain was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Rattlers.

Brian Ruiz doubled twice for Sunrise Mountain.

Desert Pines 14, Cheyenne 0 — At Cheyenne, Salvador Becerra threw a one-hitter to lead the Jaguars to the five-inning victory over the Desert Shields.

Becerra struck out eight.

Juan Castaneda was 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs to lead the Desert Pines offense. Cesar Bailon also homered for the Jaguars.

Pahrump Valley 13, Western 0 — At Western, Josh Ferrer tossed a one-hit shutout, and the Trojans’ offense had 13 hits as they defeated the Warriors in five innings.

Ferrer struck out seven.

Pahrump’s John MacDonald went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs, and Cyle Havel went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Parker Hart was 1-for-3 with three RBIs, Brendan Ormiston went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Cole Walker went 2-for-2 with a double for the Trojans.

Coronado 17, Valley 2 — At Coronado, the Cougars took advantage of 10 walks and six hit batsmen to rout the Vikings in three innings.

Kyle Hall was 1-for-2 with a double and four RBIs for Coronado, which had only five hits.

Boston Mabeus and Owen Hallett combined on a no-hitter for the Cougars.

Liberty 13, Brighton (Utah) 1 — At Liberty, Jordan Moreno went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs to lead the Patriots to the five-inning win over the Bengals in the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

Logan Coons was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Kevin Clark and a double and an RBI for Liberty.

Vauxhall (Canada) 3, Bishop Gorman 0 — At the College of Southern Nevada, Wesley Moore and Garrett Nicholson combined on a two-hitter as the Jets beat the Gaels in the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

Moore threw five hitless innings with 10 strikeouts to get the win.

Victor Cerny was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Vauxhall.

Nick Israel and Austin Wells each had a hit for Gorman.

Jordan (Utah) 9, Desert Oasis 6 — At Desert Oasis, the Beetdiggers rallied for four runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Diamondbacks in the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

Jordan’s Conner Hughes hit a three-run triple in the seventh and went 3-for-3 on the day. Noah Bachman also hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning for the Beetdiggers.

Desert Oasis’ Kyle Fuentes went 3-for-3 with a double.

Pahranagat Valley 11, Virgin Valley 1 — At Alamo, Christian Higbee fired a two-hitter as the Panthers defeated the Bulldogs in five innings.

Higbee also went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs.

Asher Haqworth was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Pahranagat Valley, and teammate Ike Taylor scored three runs and had two RBIs.

Lincoln County 10-3, Needles 0-1 — At Needles, California, Kobe Walker tossed a one-hitter and went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in the opener, and the Lynx swept a doubleheader from the Mustangs.

Walker struck out three in five innings to pick up the victory.

Dean Ottley was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Lincoln County. Alex Vincent was 2-for-4, and McClain O’Connor drove in a run.

In the second game, Hunter Wilken threw five solid innings, and Mason Thornock drove in a run to lift the Lynx.

Needles pitcher Jayden Yeager went the distance in the nightcap and finished with 12 strikeouts. Dylan Hetrick was 2-for-4, and Damon Lewis doubled for the Mustangs.
