BASEBALL: Gorman rallies twice to stun Shadow Ridge

Braxton Wehrle’s two-out single to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning plated Bryce Ruggeroli with the winning run as Bishop Gorman’s baseball team rallied in both the seventh and eighth innings to edge visiting Shadow Ridge 7-6 on Tuesday.

The Gaels clinched the Division I Sunset League title with the victory.

The Mustangs took a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning before Gorman stormed back to tie the game on Nick Hernandez’s two-out single to right field.

Shadow Ridge reclaimed the lead in the top of the eighth when Chris Opolka’s two-out single plated Winnie Springer to put the Mustangs up, 6-5.

Jordan Sadovia reached on an error to start the bottom of the eighth, and pinch runner Parker Aquino moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Ruggeroli doubled home Aquino to tie the game. After a pop out, the Mustangs intentionally walked Beau Capanna to face Wehrle, who singled up the middle.

Myles Denson was 3-for-4, and Capanna and Hernandez each went 2-for-4 for Gorman.

Quinn Ayers went 2-for-2, and Kyle Gaura was 2-for-3 with a run for Shadow Ridge. Eric Jordan was 2-for-4 with two runs for the Mustangs.

Mojave 4, Faith Lutheran 2 — At Mojave, the Rattlers rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Crusaders in the completion of a suspended game.

Faith Lutheran led 2-1 when the game was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning on Thursday.

That score held until the sixth when the Rattlers loaded the bases and tied the game on a squeeze bunt by Kevin Gutierrez.

Cameron Torres then lined a two-run single down the first-base line to give Mojave the lead.

Rease McClain went the distance for the Rattlers, allowing two earned runs on five hits. He struck out six and walked seven.

Moapa Valley 7, Tech 6 — At Tech, Bo Redd stole home to cap a three-run rally in the top of the seventh as the Pirates topped the Roadrunners.

Redd doubled earlier in the seventh for Moapa Valley, which trailed 6-4 entering the inning.

Koby Frei and Daxton Longman each had two RBIs for the Pirates. Frei started the game and came back to pitch a scoreless seventh to secure the victory.

Trevor Kephart went 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs for Tech.

Durango 6, Cimarron-Memorial 5 — At Durango, Richard Mascarenas singled up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to score two runs and lift the Trailblazers over the Spartans.

With Durango trailing 5-4, Josh Barry and Trestin Hall each singled and moved up on a wild pitch to set up Mascarenas’ go-ahead hit.

Mascarenas was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, and Barry went 2-for-3 with a double for Durango.

Justin Cuddeback and Richie Coughlin each went 2-for-2 for Cimarron. Cuddeback scored twice, and Justin Lucas was 2-for-3 with a double and a run for the Spartans.

Silverado 5, Green Valley 1 — At Silverado, Dax Fellows went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs, and Alex Grafiada was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the Skyhawks topped the Gators.

James Skelly went the distance, allowing nine hits and striking out five, to pick up the win for Silverado.

Green Valley’s Matt Gilbertson went 2-for-4 with a double, and Matt Uran went 2-for-2 for the Gators.

Palo Verde 3, Legacy 2 — At Legacy, Sam Powers tossed a seven-hitter and struck out six to help the Panthers edge the Longhorns.

Mitchell Rathbun was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Nick Wolfram went 2-for-3 for Palo Verde, which led 3-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning.

Hayden LeCates went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Austin Michals was 2-for-3 for Legacy.

Foothill 5, Canyon Springs 3 — At Foothill, Shay Landers singled home Kelton Lachelt in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie as the Falcons topped the Pioneers.

Trentin Price threw 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win and also went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Steven Yonce was 2-for-3 with a double and a run for the Falcons.

Isaiah Brown went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Canyon Springs.

Sunrise Mountain 11, Virgin Valley 8 — At Mesquite, Jace Weaver went 3-for-4, and the Miners broke an 8-8 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh to beat the Bulldogs.

Brian Ruiz was 2-for-3 for Sunrise Mountain.

Virgin Valley’s Dallan Tanner went 3-for-4, and Jayden Perkins was 3-for-5 for the Bulldogs.

Liberty 6, Valley 1 — At Valley, three pitchers combined on a two-hitter as the Patriots beat the Vikings.

Liberty led 2-1 before pulling away with a four-run sixth inning, which was highlighted by Jacob Rogers’ two-run homer.

Justin Lutes went 2-for-4 with a double, and Ryan Meservey was 2-for-3 with a double for the Patriots.

Lutes started and allowed the only run despite not giving up a hit. He struck out six.

Zack Reed threw two hitless innings with three strikeouts, and Jordan Moreno allowed two hits in two innings with two strikeouts for the Patriots.

Coronado 10, Eldorado 0 — At Coronado, Jacob Collins and Steven Gengo combined on a one-hitter to lead the Cougars by the Sundevils in five innings.

Corben Bellamy was 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs for Coronado. Cristian Herrera was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs, and Landon Rowland was 2-for-3 with a run for the Cougars.

Boulder City 10, Chaparral 0 — At Boulder City, Peyton Koopman fired a two-hitter and drove in four runs to lead the Eagles to the six-inning win over the Cowboys.

Koopman struck out nine with one walk, and went 1-for-2 with a double.

Austin Wishard went 3-for-4 with two runs, and Preston VanDiest was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI for Boulder City.

Alec Mathis went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Nolan Desantis had a solo home run for the Eagles.

Del Sol 14, Desert Pines 2 — At Desert Pines, Jorge Costa went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Christian Wallace was 2-for-2 with two RBIs as the Dragons defeated the Jaguars in five innings.

Aaron Squires hit a solo home run, and Cordell Bowie supplied a two-run double for Del Sol.

Winning pitcher Stanley Natale combined with Squires and Zach Trujillo on a three-hitter for the Dragons.

Lake Mead 11, Calvary Chapel 4 — At Paul Meyer Park, Mitchell Dolinar went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double, two runs and an RBI, and the Eagles used an eight-run fourth inning to down the Lions.

Brenden Foster was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Lake Mead, which trailed 4-0 after three innings.

Alec Neider was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs for Calvary Chapel.

The Meadows 20-20, Mountain View 1-0 — At The Meadows, the Mustangs rolled to the doubleheader sweep of the Saints.

Lincoln County 16-11, White Pine 0-1 — At Ely, the Lynx swept the Bobcats.

Adelson School 7, Agassi Prep 0 — At Agassi Prep, the Lions defeated the Stars by forfeit.
