BASEBALL: Grenier helps Gaels earn sweep

Cadyn Grenier went 2-for-4 in both games of a doubleheader Saturday to help host Bishop Gorman’s baseball team sweep Santa Margarita (Calif.), 8-4 and 15-2.

In the opener, Gorman scored four runs in the fifth inning to pull away. Beau Capanna had three hits and two RBIs, and Brandon Wulff added two hits and two RBIs for the Gaels.

In the five-inning nightcap, Grenier had a two-run home run and a triple, and Capanna belted a three-run homer for Gorman.

Silverado 5-9, Highland (Calif.) 6-0 — At Silverado, James Skelly faced the minimum 18 hitters in six innings in the finale to help the Skyhawks earn a split with the Bulldogs.

Skelly allowed a leadoff single to start the game, but picked off the runner and didn’t allow another hitter to reach base. Justin DeLeon completed the two-hitter for Silverado.

Dillon Johnson was 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for the Skyhawks.

In the opener, Highland scored single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to edge the Skyhawks.

Vince Taormina went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Silverado.

Pahrump Valley 10, Desert Pines 1 — At Pahrump, Kyle Kral tossed a six-hitter and struck out seven to guide the Trojans by the Jaguars.

Dylan Ault and Shelton Cajudoy each went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Pahrump.

Shadow Ridge 7, Westlake (Utah) 4 — At St. George, Utah, Kyle Gaura went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double to help the Mustangs top the Thunder in the Texas Roadhouse Classic.

Eric Jordan was 3-for-4 with two runs, and Quinn Ayers went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Shadow Ridge. Winning pitcher Tyler Burton was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI.

Herriman (Utah) 5, Shadow Ridge 3 — At St. George, Utah, Herriman scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally for the win in the Texas Roadhouse Classic.

Jake Wilson was 1-for-2 with a solo home run for Shadow Ridge.

Las Vegas 10, Highland (Utah) 0 — At St. George, Utah, Brandon Culmo tossed a five-inning two-hitter and struck out four to lead the Wildcats by the Rams in the Texas Roadhouse Classic.

Julio Seperich went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Antonio Gaxiola was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Las Vegas. Jaime Solis went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI for the Wildcats.

Riverton (Utah) 14, Las Vegas 11 — At St. George, Utah, the Silverwolves broke an 11-11 tie with three runs in the top of the sixth inning and held off the Wildcats in six innings in the Texas Roadhouse Classic.

Parker Lowe was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and three RBIs, and Hector Perez went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Las Vegas.

Lincoln County 11, The Meadows 1 — At Mountain View, Preston Robbins was 3-for-3 with four runs and an RBI to help the Lynx top the Mustangs in five innings via the mercy rule in the Spring Slam.

Chris Florence was 1-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, Mike Wood went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI, and Cody Thornock was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Lincoln County.

Winning pitcher Paul Boag tossed a three-hitter and struck out three.

Mountain View 16, Calvary Chapel 8 — At Mountain View, Jay Naik went 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBIs as the Saints topped the Lions in two innings in the Spring Slam.

Zach Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs and an RBI for Mountain View, which scored 15 runs in the first inning.

Lake Mead 10, Calvary Chapel 5 — At Mountain View, Jakob Bryan had two hits to lead the Eagles by the Lions in the Spring Slam.

Bishop’s School (Calif.) 13, Lake Mead 0 — At Mountain View, the Knights used an eight-run second inning to rout the Eagles in three innings in the Spring Slam.
