BASEBALL: Hand, Mustangs stay alive in Northwest race

Jordan Hand went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs and two RBIs on Wednesday as Shadow Ridge’s baseball team stayed alive in the race for the Northwest League title with a 10-3 victory over visiting Arbor View.

Eric Jordan went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Tyler Burton was 2-for-3 with two runs for Shadow Ridge, which scored six runs in the first inning.

The Mustangs trail first-place Arbor View by one game in the standings with two games remaining.

Sid Cutting was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Nick Quintana went 2-for-3 with a run for Arbor View.

Spring Valley 4, Sierra Vista 3 — At Spring Valley, Jake Sellinger’s RBI single to score Michael Macove in the third inning proved to be the winning run as the Grizzlies edged the Mountain Lions.

Zane Drachler earned the win and supplied two hits. Cody Watkins added three hits and two runs for Spring Valley, which scored three times in the third.

The win moved the Grizzlies into a third-place tie in the Northwest League with Sierra Vista.

Alex Kern was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Nolan Kingham doubled for the Mountain Lions.

Palo Verde 10, Durango 0 — At Palo Verde, Brad Steiner tossed a four-hitter to propel the Panthers to a six-inning victory over the Trailblazers.

Colin Janison had a two-run double, and Bradley Lewis and Michael Spada each added two hits for Palo Verde. Kevin Smith added a two-run single.

Vince Lombardi led Durango with two hits.

Green Valley 7, Canyon Springs 0 — At Green Valley, Blake Inouye and Jimmy Montiel combined on a seven-hitter as the Gators beat the Pioneers.

Inouye allowed four hits in five innings with seven strikeouts and no walks to get the win. Montiel struck out three in two scoreless innings of relief.

Jarrett Perns was 4-for-4 with a double, and Anthony Hatch was 1-for-3 with four RBIs for Green Valley.

Jordan Gainey and Johnny Flores each went 2-for-3 for Canyon Springs.

Rancho 10, Las Vegas 0 — At Rancho, Jose Verdugo went 2-for-2 with three RBIs to lead the Rams past the Wildcats in six innings.

Andrew Wieger pitched five innings to earn the win, and Juan Cruz went 2-for-4 for the Rams.

Las Vegas’ Jamie Solis went 2-for-3.

Silverado 22, Valley 1 — At Valley, Jordan Thompson doubled twice and drove in three runs, and Mitchell Ballard supplied three hits, two runs and two RBIs as the Skyhawks routed the Vikings in five innings.

Nick Kawano contributed two hits and two RBIs for Silverado.

Isaiah Cardenas was 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead Valley.

Boulder City 14, Desert Pines 1 — At Boulder City, Peyton Koopman went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs and pitched five solid innings to lift the Eagles past the Jaguars.

Koopman allowed one run on four hits and struck out four to earn the win.

Nolan Desantis was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Preston Van Diest finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Boulder City. Mario Castanon was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Colton Bosnos doubled and drove in three runs.

Vasifauna Hansell drove in the only run for Desert Pines with an RBI groundout in the first inning, and teammate David Poutasi added a double.

Chaparral 16, Sunrise Mountain 6 — At Sunrise Mountain, Tyler Crone was 3-for-3 with two doubles, four runs and four RBIs, and Luis Giro supplied three hits, two runs and two RBIs to power the Cowboys past the Miners in five innings.

Jose Ortiz had two hits, including a triple, and scored three runs, and Chad Clark added two hits and three runs for Chaparral.

Trey Smith was 3-for-3 to lead Sunrise Mountain.

Moapa Valley 9, Virgin Valley 8 — At Mesquite, Chad Jones hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to lift the Pirates past the Bulldogs.

Jones finished 4-for-4 and allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win. He also stole home to tie the game at 7-7 in the top of the seventh before Brendon Larsen’s run-scoring infield single gave Moapa Valley an 8-7 lead.

Jared Repp hit a three-run homer in the first inning for Moapa Valley.
