BASEBALL: Kovatch doubles home winning run as Trojans edge Desert Shields

Cody Kovatch’s one-out double in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday plated Josh Mortensen with the winning run to lift Pahrump Valley’s baseball team to a 2-1 win over visiting Cheyenne.
Chad Uyeno tossed a six-hitter and struck out six for the Trojans. Mortensen went 2-for-4 for Pahrump.
Scott Flinn tossed a seven-hitter for the Desert Shields. Flinn also went 2-for-3 for Cheyenne.
Coronado 5, Del Sol 1 — At Coronado, Austin Garcia was 2-for-3 with two RBIs to help the Cougars top the Dragons.
Sterling Saltz was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Tanner Bellamy was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Coronado.
Luke McArthy tossed an eight-hitter and struck out three for the Cougars.
Cordell Bowie was 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Nathan Fenn went 2-for-3 for Del Sol.
Bishop Gorman 18, Bonanza 2 — At Gorman, Drew Newson was 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs as the Gaels routed the Bengals in five innings.
Matt Judd went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Cole Krzmarzick was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs for Gorman. Michael Blasko was 2-for-2 with a double, and Austin Cram went 2-for-3 with a double for the Gaels.
Alec Taft had a solo home run for Bonanza.
Cimarron-Memorial 14, Desert Oasis 4 — At Cimarron, Adam Mitchell went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs to lift the Spartans over the Diamondbacks in five innings.
Niko Decolati was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Parker McHale was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for Cimarron. Alexander Marco was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Spartans.
Alex Tafesh went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Desert Oasis.
Faith Lutheran 11, Mojave 0 — At Faith Lutheran, Brandon Johnson tossed a one-hitter and struck out 11 to lead the Crusaders by the Rattlers in five innings.
Erich Uelmen was 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs, and Zach Trageton went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs for Faith Lutheran.
Centennial 11, Legacy 1 — At Centennial, Cooper Powell was 2-for-2 with two triples, two RBIs and two runs as the Bulldogs topped the Longhorns in five innings.
Hayden Grant was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, and Tanner Wright was 2-for-3 with two runs for Centennial, which got a four-hitter from pitcher Will Loucks.
Quentin Ewing was 1-for-2 with a run for Legacy.
Basic 16, Eldorado 0 — At Eldorado, Mikey York pitched a one-hit shutout, striking out eight with no walks, to lead the Wolves by the Sundevils in five innings.
York was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs, three RBIs, and. Josh McLean was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and two RBIs for Basic. Skyler Mahoney also went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs for the Wolves.
Northridge (Colo.) 13, Durango 5 — At Durango, Kyle Greenwell went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, two runs and two RBIs to lead Northridge over the Trailblazers.
Joey Shawhan hit a three-run home run, and Jacob Skipper added a two-run blast, both in the first inning, for Durango.
