BASEBALL: Lutes, Liberty rally to beat Foothill

Winning pitcher Justin Lutes went 2-for-4 with a run Wednesday as Liberty’s baseball team rallied from an early four-run deficit to beat host Foothill 8-5 in a Division I Sunrise League game.

Michael Wong went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Omar Ortiz was 2-for-3 with one RBI for Liberty, which scored five runs in the top of the third inning to take a 5-4 lead. The Patriots scored single runs in each of the next three innings to pull away.

Shay Landers was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Foothill.

Basic 11, Silverado 3 — At Silverado, Roger Riley went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs, and Christian Rivero was 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI as the Wolves downed the Skyhawks.

Trent Bixby went the distance for the win for Basic, scattering six hits and striking out eight, to get the win. The Wolves led 6-3 after three innings.

Michael Camburn went 2-for-3, and teammate Alex Grafiada tripled for Silverado.

Chaparral 2, Del Sol 1 — At Chaparral, winning pitcher Mark O’Connor doubled and scored the eventual winning run on an error in the bottom of the fifth as the Cowboys nipped the Dragons.

O’Connor went the distance and allowed five hits with 14 strikeouts for Chaparral.

Del Sol’s Stanley Natale was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Christian Wallace was 2-for-3 for the Dragons.

Coronado 5, Canyon Springs 2 — At Coronado, Kyle Hall went 2-for-4 to help the Cougars to beat the Pioneers.

Cristian Herrera hit a triple, and Corben Bellamy and Noah Hemphill each doubled for Coronado, which led 4-0 after two innings.

Canyon Springs’ Trevor Berkemeyer went 3-for-4 with a home run, and Zack Gardner was 2-for-3 with a double for the Pioneers.

Bishop Gorman 10, Snow Canyon (Utah) 0 — At Gorman, Brian Coffey threw a five-inning no-hitter as the Gaels defeated the Warriors.

Coffey struck out nine and walked two.

Beau Capanna had two hits and three RBIs, and Marques Paige added a hit and two RBIs for the Gaels.

Rancho 8, Eldorado 1 — At Eldorado, Jimmy Gamboa and Cassius Shy combined on a five-hitter as the Rams defeated the Sundevils.

Anthony Guzman was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI for Rancho, which scored six runs in the top of the third inning.

Tech 4, Virgin Valley 0 — At Tech, Logan Campbell spun a two-hitter with nine strikeouts to help the Roadrunners blank the Bulldogs.

Jayce Otis was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two runs and three stolen bases for Tech, which got a two-run single from Gabe Kermode. Sean Jones went 2-for-3, and Alexis Acosta tripled for the Roadrunners.

Boulder City 9, Desert Pines 2 — At Desert Pines, Jake Hubel’s one-out RBI single sparked a seven-run seventh inning that gave the Eagles the win over the Jaguars.

Mike Morelli was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Alec Mathis went 2-for-4 with a run for Boulder City. Nolan Desantis was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Eagles.

Tony Fields was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Desert Pines.

Moapa Valley 13, Sunrise Mountain 2 — At Overton, Koby Frei threw a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and had three RBIs to lead the Pirates by the Miners.

Anthony Cornwall was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Tyler Peterson went 2-for-3 for Moapa Valley, which led 13-0 after three innings.

Brian Ruiz was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Sunrise Mountain.

Needles 18, Mohave Accelerated (Ariz.) 1 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, Mario Rabanales was 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs as the Mustangs routed the Patriots in five innings.

Dylan Hetrick was 2-for-4 with a double and five RBIs, and teammate Trenton Poe-Evans went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs for Needles, which scored 11 runs in the third inning.
