BASEBALL: Mahoney, Wolves rout Bulldogs in title game

Skyler Mahoney went 3-for-5 with a triple, two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored Monday to help Basic’s baseball team to an 11-3 victory at Centennial in the championship game of the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Logan Green was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Josh McLean went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for the Wolves, who scored six runs in the top of the first inning. Jorge Estrada was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Jack Wold was 2-for-5 with an RBI for Basic.

Travis Stevens went 3-for-4, and Ricky Koplow went 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs.

Liberty 16, Las Vegas 1 — At Liberty, Jake DiGregorio threw a no-hitter, and the Patriots routed the Wildcats in five innings.

DiGregorio struck out four. Las Vegas scored in the second inning when DiGregorio walked two, and the run scored on a passed ball.

Preston Pavlica was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Jay Martz went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs to power Liberty’s offense.

Ethan Ibarra added two hits, including a double, for Liberty.

Rancho 6, Arbor View 5 — At Arbor View, Cody Suarez scored on Zach Barnhart’s hard ground ball to second to cap a three-run top of the seventh inning as the Rams rallied by the Aggies in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

David Modler went 2-for-4, including a run-scoring single in the seventh for Rancho, and teammate Bryce Harrell was 2-for-3.

Rancho’s Richie Coughlin struck out Arbor View’s Nos. 3, 4 and 5 hitters in the bottom of the seventh to collect the save.

Nick Quintana went 2-for-4 and scored twice for Arbor View.

Sierra Vista 14, Desert Oasis 12 — At Sierra Vista, Alex Kern was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI to help the Mountain Lions outlast the Diamondbacks in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Nolan Kingham was 2-for-4 with a double, and Cole Crosby was 3-for-3 with a double for Sierra Vista, which scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 14-11 lead.

Alex Tafesh went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and four RBIs for Desert Oasis.

Green Valley 7, Durango 3 — At Green Valley, Cody Milner went 1-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Gators past the Trailblazers in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Troy Cropper went 2-for-3 for Green Valley.

Anthony Parry was 2-for-3 for Durango.

Chaparral 8, Cheyenne 2 — At Chaparral, Tyler Crone took a perfect game into the seventh before settling for a two-hitter as the Cowboys topped the Desert Shields.

Crone, who struck out nine, retired the first 18 hitters before an error allowed the leadoff batter of the seventh inning to reach. After an out, Chaparral committed another error, and the Desert Shields used two hits to drive in two unearned runs.

Luis Giro was 3-for-4 with a home run, and Chad Clark went 3-for-4 with a double for Chaparral. Mark O’Connor was 2-for-4 for the Cowboys.

Palo Verde 16, Bonanza 6 — At Palo Verde, Sam Powers went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs, and the Panthers ended the game with a 10-run bottom of the sixth inning.

Michael Spada was 3-for-3 with three runs, and Yodai Nakamura went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Palo Verde. Mitchell Rathbun was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Panthers.

Eric Schultz was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Bonanza.

Legacy 18, Western 11 — At Legacy, Austin Michaels was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs as the Longhorns outlasted the Warriors.

Quentin Ewing went 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI for Legacy, which took advantage of 11 Western errors.

Tech 7, Valley 4 — At Valley, Jalen Birch broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring single in the sixth inning, sending the Roadrunners past the Vikings.

Abel Martinez went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Tech.

Omar Gonzalez had a three-run double in Valley’s four-run third inning.

Eldorado 10, Mojave 5 — At Eldorado, Cris Andrade went the distance and didn’t allow an earned run as the Sundevils topped the Rattlers in the championship game of the Sundevil Invitational.

Andrade struck out seven, walked one and allowed six hits.

Trevor Swain was 2-for-5 with a run for Eldorado, which scored four runs in the second and six in the third.

Liberty baseball coach Rich Ebarb died Wednesday night, the school confirmed. Ebarb has a long coaching resume in Southern Nevada.
