BASEBALL: Marquetti’s walk-off double lifts Cheyenne

Orestes Marquetti doubled home George Carmona with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Cheyenne’s baseball team a 5-4 win over visiting Valley on Tuesday.

Carmona had reached on a two-out walk.

Titus Quintanilla and Korey Poole each had an RBI double for the Desert Shields, who scored three runs in the fifth to tie the game, 4-4.

Angelo Hallenbeck got the win in relief of Terry Oechslin, who struck out seven in five innings.

Jose Saavedra had two hits to lead the Vikings.

Western 2, Sunrise Mountain 1 — At Western, Osvaldo Escobar’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave the Warriors the win over the Miners.

Escobar also fired a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and two walks to get the win. He was perfect through four innings, and took a no-hitter into the seventh.

Sunrise Mountain scored a run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Josh Brown to tie the game, 1-1.

Edgar Reyes had a double and a triple for Western.

Spring Valley 9, Bonanza 8 — At Spring Valley, the Grizzlies took advantage of an error and two passed balls to score twice in the bottom of the seventh and nip the Bengals.

Taylor Robison singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh and scored on a throwing error to tie it at 8-8.

After Bonanza used an intentional walk to load the bases, Nick Rupp hit a sacrifice fly to left field that plated Jake Sellinger with the winning run for the Grizzlies.

Alex Gomez provided a pinch-hit, RBI single to tie the game at 7-7 as part of a four-run sixth inning for Spring Valley.

Zane Drachler had two hits and two RBIs, and teammate Bryce Bullock supplied two hits for the Grizzlies.

Hunter Junge had three hits and an RBI for the Bengals, who got two hits apiece from Alec Taft and Frankie Valle.

Durango 9, Cheyenne Mountain (Colo.) 8 — At Durango, Richard Mascarenas’ two-out single to left field plated Artie Gallegos with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning and lifted the Trailblazers past Cheyenne Mountain.

Durango, which trailed 8-1 after four innings, scored twice in the fifth and four times in the sixth to pull within 8-7.

Joey Shawhan started the seventh-inning rally with a one-out single. After Sean Macias’ fielder’s choice forced Shawhan at second, Gallegos ripped a triple to tie the game, and Mascarenas followed with the winning hit.

Gallegos was 3-for-5 and scored three runs, and Mascarenas was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Durango.

Nick Lacayo was 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs for Cheyenne Mountain.

Chaparral 5, Tech 4 — At Chaparral, Chad Clark scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Cowboys the win over the Roadrunners.

Tommy Crone hit a home run, and Matt Ellison had a double for Chaparral.

Tyler Crone picked up the win in relief, allowing no hits and striking out four of the five batters he faced.

Shadow Ridge 4, Faith Lutheran 2 — At Shadow Ridge, the Mustangs scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth with the help of three errors to top the Crusaders.

Jakob Chambers doubled home the go-ahead run to highlight the sixth inning for Shadow Ridge.

Brady Hoskins had two hits and an RBI, and Trevin Reynolds threw two hitless innings of relief to get the win. Reynolds struck out two and walked one.

Faith Lutheran’s Blake Giuliani had two hits, and teammate Zach Trageton had an RBI single.

Coronado 4, Cimarron-Memorial 3 — At Cimarron, Austin Garcia had a two-run homer, and winning pitcher Jackson Cofer went 2-for-3 with a double to help the Cougars nip the Spartans.

Tanner Bellamy was 2-for-3 with a triple for Coronado.

Cimarron’s Adam Mitchell went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run, and Jamie Yanchisin hit a home run for the Spartans.

Palo Verde 6, Centennial 5 — Michael Spada was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs to help the Panthers hold off the Bulldogs.

J.D. Brooks was 2-for-3 with a run for Palo Verde, which scored three runs in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.

Centennial answered with four runs in the top of the sixth, and the Bulldogs had runners at second and third with one out in the seventh, but reliever Paul Wolfram wiggled out of a jam for the second consecutive day.

Wolfram got a strikeout and a fly out to end the game.

Travis Stevens was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Centennial.

Legacy 3, Silverado 2 — At Silverado, Aaron Trifunac hit two doubles, and Daniel Zaragoza and Garret Christiansen combined on a five-hitter as the Longhorns edged the Skyhawks.

Zaragoza earned the win and Christiansen picked up the save.

Rancho 13, Basic 8 — At Rancho, Jose Verdugo was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and three RBIs and tossed three innings of relief to pick up a save as the Rams held off the Wolves.

Bryce Harrell, Josh Mill and Juan Cruz each had two hits for Rancho, which led 11-3 after two innings.

Skyler Mahoney was 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBIs for Basic.

Liberty 11, Sierra Vista 8 — At Sierra Vista, Jay Martz was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and the Patriots scored five runs in the top of the fifth to down the Mountain Lions.

Dan Skelly was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs for Liberty, wich trailed 5-4 going into the fifth. The go-ahead run came home on a bases-loaded walk.

Sierra Vista’s Caeden Marin was 2-for-2 with an RBI, and teammate Chandler Smith went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI.

Green Valley 8, Oregon City (Ore.) 3 — At Green Valley, Ryan Jackson tossed a complete game, allowing five hits and fanning 10 to propel the Gators to a win over the Pioneers.

Cody Milner had two hits, including an RBI triple, and Keola Paragas added two hits for Green Valley, which used a four-run fourth inning to pull away.

Troy Crawford supplied two hits to lead Oregon City.

Del Sol 14, Mojave 4 — At Del Sol, Christian Wallace went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Dragons to the six-inning win over the Rattlers.

Jason Rolland was 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and three RBIs for Del Sol, and teammate Nate Fenn added two singles and an RBI.

Boulder City 20, Virgin Valley 2 — At Mesquite, Preston Van Diest was 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBIs, and Colton Bosnos went 3-for-5 with a double and three runs as the Eagles routed the Bulldogs in five innings.

Peyton Koopman went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs, and Will Knudsen was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs for Boulder City. Austin Shepard went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs, and Nolan Desantis was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs for the Eagles, who had 20 hits.

Cody Faught went 2-for-3 for Virgin Valley.

Moapa Valley 24, Desert Pines 1 — At Desert Pines, Chad Jones and Jared Repp each had four RBIs, and the Pirates scored 20 runs in the fourth to cruise past the Jaguars.

Jones also struck out four in five innings to earn the win. Kannon Evans added three RBIs, and J.R. Redd drove in two runs for Moapa Valley.

Desert Pines’ Iquan Corsey was 2-for-3 with a double.

Indian Springs 22, Laughlin 12 — At Indian Springs, Ryan Frank went 2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs to help the Thunderbirds beat the Cougars in six innings.

Bailey McCormick was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Indian Springs, which scored 17 runs over the final three innings.

Beatty 17, Adelson School 11 — At Adelson School, Luis Flores went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and four RBIs to lead the Hornets over the Lions.
