BASEBALL: Matthias Blodgett, Chargers edge Durango

Matthias Blodgett allowed one earned run in six innings on Thursday as Clark’s baseball team earned a 3-2 home win over Durango.

Blodgett struck out four for the Chargers, who scored three runs in the first inning.

Brendan Palmer retired the side in order in the seventh to get the save.

Palmer provided a two-run double, and scored on an RBI single by Cayman Fernandez for the Chargers.

Josh Barry had an RBI single for Durango, which got a double from Richard Mascarenas.

Sunrise Mountain 8, Desert Pines 7 — At Sunrise Mountain, Eduardo Avelino scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Miners past the Jaguars.

Avelino led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk, and advanced to third base on consecutive bunt singles to set up the scoring opportunity.

Daltyn Pytrysson tripled, and Brian Ruiz and Earl Garrett each doubled for Sunrise Mountain.

Roderick Williams pitched the sixth and seventh innings in relief of Ruiz to pick up the win.

Steven Laureano doubled to lead the Jaguars.

Cheyenne 7, Western 2 — At Western, Titus Quintanilla tossed a four-hitter with six strikeouts and held the Warriors scoreless over the last four innings to give the Desert Shields a road win.

Justin Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a two-run single, and teammate Christopher Rose also had a two-run single for Cheyenne. Zach Childress and Ramon Daniels each had two hits for the Desert Shields.

Sebastian Reyes and Tyler Matthews each had two hits to pace Western.

Bishop Gorman 15, Desert Oasis 4 — At Desert Oasis, Austin Wells was 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs and four RBIs to power the Gaels past the Diamondbacks in six innings.

Braxton Wehrle was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs and three RBIs, and Nick Israel went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs for Gorman.

Jordan Sadovia was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Gaels, who scored eight runs in the third inning.

Aaron Roberts had a three-run home run for Desert Oasis.

Legacy 18, Mojave 6 — At Mojave, Donte Williams was 2-for-5 with a home run, three runs and four RBIs to help the Longhorns to the six-inning win over the Rattlers.

Johnny Ball went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs, and Forrest Grevelis and Willie Valdez-Grijalva each had two hits and three RBIs for Legacy.

The Longhorns scored nine runs in the third and seven in the sixth.

Mike Cianci was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and and RBI, and Scott Wilson went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and two RBIs for Mojave.

Laughlin 18-16, Adelson School 7-8 — At Adelson School, Andrew Braaksma was 3-for-4 in the opener to help the Cougars sweep the Lions.

Coda Abatti and Diego Trujillo each had two hits for Laughlin, which scored 12 runs in the sixth inning.

Sammy Katz and Mordechai Shirit each supplied two hits to pace Adelson School.

In the second game, Abatti went 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs, and Diego Trujillo added two hits for Laughlin, which led 11-4 after three innings.

Sammy Katz was 3-for-4 to lead Adelson School.

Liberty baseball coach Rich Ebarb died Wednesday night, the school confirmed. Ebarb has a long coaching resume in Southern Nevada.
