BASEBALL: Miguel Elicerio’s homer gives Rancho win over Wildcats

Miguel Elicerio hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie as Rancho’s baseball team edged visiting Las Vegas 2-1 on Monday.

The Wildcats had tied the game in the top of the inning on an RBI single by Kevin Verduzco.

Jimmy Gamboa went the distance for the Rams to get the win. He allowed seven hits and struck out six with one walk.

Gamboa also doubled home Edarian Williams in the third inning. Williams was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple.

Verduzco was 2-for-4 for Las Vegas.

Coronado 14, Canyon Springs 0 — At Coronado, Kyle Hall fired a no-hitter as the Cougars beat the Pioneers in five innings.

Hall struck out six and hit a batter.

Cristian Herrera went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Garett Lake was 2-for-2 with three runs to lead the Coronado offense. Landon Rowland added a triple and two RBIs for the Cougars.

Spring Valley 2, Clark 1 — At Spring Valley, Nick Rupp fired a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts as the Grizzlies edged the Chargers.

Rupp walked one. Clark’s run came home in the fifth on an RBI single by Garrett Woodford.

Spring Valley managed just one hit, a single by Chase Rodriguez in the fifth inning. But the Grizzlies scored a run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Humberto Maldonado, and added a run in the third on an RBI groundout by Rupp.

Matthias Blodgett went the distance for Clark. He struck out four, walked two and didn’t allow an earned run.

Shadow Ridge 7, Palo Verde 3 — At Shadow Ridge, Bryson Barnes and Justin Lee each doubled to lead the Mustangs past the Panthers.

Dylan Baker went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Shadow Ridge, which scored seven runs in the first two innings.

Jesse Meyer allowed two runs over 5⅔ innings to pick up the win.

Jaxon Hammond and Ryan Merino each doubled for the Panthers.

Foothill 8, Liberty 5 — At Foothill, Tyler Kara was 2-for-3 with two triples and two runs as the Falcons defeated the Patriots.

Alex Elizondo drove in two runs, and Tommy Dirk scored twice for Foothill, which scored five runs in the second inning to take a 6-4 lead.

Kelton Lachelt threw three hitless innings of relief with four strikeouts to earn the victory.

Jacob Rogers was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run for Liberty.

Silverado 11, Valley 0 — At Silverado, Kevin Pindel fired a one-hitter as the Skyhawks topped the Vikings in five innings.

Valley’s Bryce Cowin singled leading off the fifth to break up the no-hitter. Pindel struck out nine and hit a batter.

He also went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer, three RBIs and a run.

Payton Ballard went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and three runs for Silverado.

Green Valley 10, Eldorado 3 — At Eldorado, Drake Maningo was 2-for-4 with three RBIs as the Gators topped the Sundevils.

Carter Gehlken went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Austin Primack and Gavin Alemburu each added two hits for Green Valley.

Kyle Rizzuti went 3-for-3 with a double and a run for Eldorado. Trevor Lavenberg was 2-for-3 with a double and a run for the Sundevils.

Bishop Gorman 12, Bonanza 0 — At Bonanza, Nick Israel was 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs to help the Gaels to the five-inning win over the Bengals.

Jorel Hingada went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Tyler Curtis was 2-for-3 with a double and a run.

Nick Matera hit a three-run home run, and Nick Hernandez hit a two-run homer for the Gaels.

Dutch Landis threw four shutout innings to get the win. He allowed three hits, walked four and struck out six.

Lucas Rosenblatt doubled for Bonanza.

Chaparral 11, Sunrise Mountain 5 — At Sunrise Mountain, Robert O’Connor threw 2⅓ innings of relief and struck out six to help the Cowboys top the Miners.

Erick Villareal hit a triple, and Kevin Woolman doubled for Chaparral. Talon Greene went 2-for-3, and Jacob Mauro was 2-for-4 for the Cowboys, who led 6-5 after three innings.

Donavan Hansen and Bryan Ruiz each had a double for Sunrise Mountain.

Adelson School 19, Spring Mountain 4 — At Adelson School, Brandon Pappas went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Lions to a three-inning win over the Golden Eagles.

Pappas also fanned six to pick up the win.

Harrison Clayton, Samuel Shain and Sammy Katz each went 2-for-4 for Adelson School.

Chamaine Richardson went 2-for-4 with a double to lead Spring Mountain.
