BASEBALL: Modler hits walk-off single, Rams edge Bulldogs

David Modler’s bases-loaded single up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning Thursday plated Juan Cruz with the winning run as host Rancho’s baseball team outlasted Centennial, 9-8.

Cruz reached on an error and moved to second base on Bryce Harrell’s single. With two outs, the Bulldogs intentionally walked Jose Verdugo to get to Modler, who finished a 4-for-5 day with the hit up the middle.

Verdugo was 2-for-4, including a two-run home run in the first inning, and Harrell and winning pitcher Dylan Pletsch each had three hits.

Pletsch struck out seven in four innings.

Travis Stevens was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Will Loucks hit a three-run home run for Centennial.

Arbor View 2, Basic 1 — At Basic, Max Jungbut singled home Quinn Gallagher in the top of the second to break a 1-1 tie, and the Aggies held on to top the Wolves.

Gallagher doubled and stole third before scoring on Jungblut’s hit. Jungblut was 2-for-3.

Sam Pastrone allowed one run on four hits in five innings to get the win. He struck out nine and walked two.

Ben Cutting threw two hitless innings with two strikeouts to get the save.

Basic’s Taylor Ferdinand went the distance, scattering seven hits and striking out eight.

Virgin Valley 5, Sunrise Mountain 4 — At Mesquite, Cody Jones went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and the Bulldogs scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie before holding off the Miners.

Winning pitcher Cody Faught was 3-for-4, and Christian Begin was 2-for-3 with a double for Virgin Valley. Ezra Patten was 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs.

Jace Weaver doubled, singled and had two RBIs for the Miners.

Tech 9, Desert Pines 6 — At Silver Bowl Park, Bryan Casas was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and the Roadrunners used a five-run third inning and a four-run fourth to top the Jaguars.

Zach West was 3-for-3 with a run, and Chandler Gehring went 2-for-3 with two runs for Tech. Jayce Otis was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Roadrunners.

Tech’s Abel Martinez tossed a four-hitter and struck out 13.

Iquan Corsey was 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs, and Ryan Naki-Poomaihealani was 2-for-3 with two runs for Desert Pines.

Spring Valley 9, Bonanza 6 — At Bonanza, Michael Macove went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Taylor Robinson was 3-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Grizzlies over the Bengals.

Frankie Valle was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for Bonanza.

Del Sol 10, Valley 5 — At Del Sol, Nick Trujillo’s three-run triple highlighted a nine-run first inning for the Dragons as they topped the Vikings.

Del Sol had four of its six hits in the first inning, and also took advantage of four walks and two errors.

Trevor Lavenburg and Alonso Osorio-Kalawe each went 2-for-4 for Valley.

Coronado 9, Palo Verde 1 — At Palo Verde, Jordan Dalrymple was 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI to help the Cougars down the Panthers.

Anthony Olheiser supplied two hits, two runs and an RBI, and Austin Garcia added two RBIs on two sacrifice flies for Coronado.

Daniel Heller had an RBI double to lead Palo Verde.

Sierra Vista 10, Silverado 3 — At Sierra Vista, Chandler Smith went 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs to help the Mountain Lions top the Skyhawks.

Cole Crosby went 3-for-4 with two triples, two RBIs and three runs for Sierra Vista.

Chase Cortez was 2-for-4 with a double, and James Skelly went 2-for-3 for Silverado, which got two hits from Nick Kawano.

Chaparral 10, Moapa Valley 4 — At Overton, Tommy Crone went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI as the Cowboys downed the Pirates.

Chad Clark struck out four in 6 2/3 innings to get the win, and Luis Giro was 2-for-5 for Chaparral.

Chaz Cornwall and Kannon Evans each went 2-for-4 for Moapa Valley.

Bishop Gorman 18, Oregon City (Ore.) 3 — At Gorman, Cole Krzmarzick went 4-for-4 with two home runs, including a grand slam, and six RBIs as the Gaels rolled to a win over Oregon City.

Michael Blasko was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Cadyn Grenier was 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs for Gorman. Nick Gates was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Drew Newson was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Gaels.

Chris Frederickson tossed six innings of relief to get the win.

Durango 9, Mazama (Ore.) 5 — At Durango, John Wright went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI as the Trailblazers defeated the Vikings.

Artie Gallegos finished 2-for-3 with a double and a triple for Durango, which scored five times in the first inning and took the lead for good with two runs in the second.
