BASEBALL: Parr nearly perfect in Mustangs’ win over Trailblazers

Shadow Ridge senior Nick Parr came within two outs of a perfect game Thursday and settled for a one-hitter as the Mustangs’ baseball team downed visiting Durango, 3-0.

Parr was perfect through 6 1/3 innings before allowing a soft single to the Trailblazers’ Colin Marracco on a 1-and-2 pitch with one out in the seventh inning.

Parr retired the final two hitters and faced one more than the minimum. He struck out six.

Isaiah Blaylock was 2-for-3, and teammate Trevin Reynolds was 1-for-2 with two RBIs for the Mustangs.

Desert Oasis 3, Cimarron-Memorial 2 — At Desert Oasis, Brett Brocoff’s grounder to second plated Jason Sharman with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Diamondbacks nipped the Spartans.

Sharman walked and continued to second on a wild pitch to lead off the sixth. After an intentional walk to Bryson Stott, Cole Schaefer bunted for a single to load the bases. Brocoff hit a soft grounder to second to allow Sharman to score.

Stott was 2-for-3 with a double for Desert Oasis.

Jacob Godman went 2-for-3 with a double, and Noah Loeffler was 2-for-3 for Cimarron.

Desert Hills (Utah) 11, Foothill 1 — At St. George, Utah, Trey Winget went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, three runs and an RBI as the Thunder topped the Falcons in six innings in the Foot and Ankle Institute Invitational.

Chad Nelson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Trey Allred was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Desert Hills.

Jack Fredericksen was 1-for-3 with a double for Foothill.

Bishop Gorman 10, Legacy 0 — At Gorman, Chris Fredericksen and Tyler McKee combined on a five-inning one-hitter as the Gaels topped the Longhorns.

Myles Denson had three hits, including a triple, for Gorman, and teammate Austin Wells doubled, singled and had two RBIs.

Spring Valley 14, Cheyenne 0 — At Cheyenne, Bryce Bullock went 3-for-3 and threw a five-inning three-hitter as the Grizzlies routed the Desert Shields.

Jack Sellinger also was 3-for-3 for Spring Valley.

Jaxson Otis supplied a three-run triple, and Jake Sellinger had a three-run double for the Grizzlies.

Faith Lutheran 19, Western 0 — At Western, Joshua Harmonay hit a grand slam in the first as the Crusaders overwhelmed the Warriors in five innings.

Harmonay’s homer was part of an 11-run first inning for Faith Lutheran. Harmonay finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs.

Blake Giuliani had a double and a RBI for the Crusaders.

Kanoa Flynn allowed two hits and struck out six over three innings to pick up the win.

Sierra Vista 13, Mojave 1 — At Mojave, Jhared Gonzalez recovered from a bad start to retire 15 of 16 batters to lead the Mountain Lions to a rout of the Rattlers.

Gonzalez struck out two and walked one after allowing three consecutive hits and a run to the Rattlers in the first inning. Gonzalez also helped himself out at the plate with a double and two RBIs.

Kaven Alferez, Blake Kaplan, Hunter Wood, Dylan White and DaVion Hollis also doubled for the Mountain Lions. Kaplan and Ryan Carroll each drove in two runs.

Scott Wilson doubled for the Rattlers.

Clark 13, Pahrump Valley 2 — At Pahrump, Guy Tannenbaum was 4-for-4, and Jason Erlan went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to help lift the Chargers over the Trojans.

Matthew Thompson finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs for Clark, and teammate Thomas Campbell drove in two runs with two doubles.

Clark relievers Lake Trudeau, Thompson and Campbell retired all 12 batters that they faced.

Josh Ferrer doubled, and Garret Lucas had an RBI single for Pahrump Valley.

Needles 10, Laughlin 0 — At Laughlin, Jayden Yeager tossed a five-inning two-hitter with one walk and 13 strikeouts as the Mustangs downed the Cougars.

Dylan Hetrick was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Devin Darrow went 2-for-3 with a double for Needles.
