BASEBALL: Porter hits for cycle, leads Palo Verde past No. 1 Gorman

Blake Porter hit for the cycle, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs, to help Palo Verde’s baseball team stun top-ranked and host Bishop Gorman, 13-7 on Wednesday.
Jaxon Hammond went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs for the Panthers, who scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning.
Cobi Fiechtner was 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs for Palo Verde.
Bryce Ruggeroli was 3-for-4 with a home run and a double, and Nick Hernandez was 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs for Gorman.
Mojave 2, Sierra Vista 1 — At Sierra Vista, Otto Hernandez went 3-for-3 with a home run and two runs as the Rattlers edged the Mountain Lions.
Cooper Kitrel homered in the bottom of the seventh for Sierra Vista, but Mojave reliever Rease McClain retired the next three batters on three pitches to preserve the win.
Kaven Alferez doubled and tripled for Sierra Vista.
Bonanza 11, Legacy 4 — At Legacy, Jay DeSoto was 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs to power the Bengals by the Longhorns.
Byron Naftzger went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Eric Schultz was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs for Bonanza. Torren Brozovich was 2-for-5 with a triple for Bonanza.
Alex Tadd went 2-for-3 for Legacy.
Arbor View 9, Durango 2 — At Arbor View, Jayce Garnder was 3-for-3 with a triple, a run and two RBIs to lead the Aggies by the Trailblazers.
Ryan McHale and Nick Quintana each homered for Arbor View.
Richard Mascarenas was 2-for-2 with a double for Durango.
Faith Lutheran 9, Western 0 — At Faith Lutheran, Kanoa Flynn and Jake Ortega combined on a one-hitter as the Crusaders blanked the Warriors.
Flynn allowed one hit and struck out eight in four innings. Ortega struck out four in three hitless innings.
Jared Powers was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Nate McLaurin went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for Faith Lutheran.
Shadow Ridge 13, Cimarron-Memorial 3 — At Shadow Ridge, winning pitcher Isaiah Blaylock tossed a five-hitter and was 1-for-3 with a grand slam as the Mustangs downed the Spartans in six innings.
Quinn Ayers was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three runs and two RBIs, and Bryson Barnes was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs for Shadow Ridge. Trevin Reynolds and Justin Lee each went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs for Shadow Ridge.
Derek Decolati went 2-for-3, and Alexander Marco was 1-for-3 with a home run for Cimarron.
Centennial 14, Desert Oasis 2 — At Desert Oasis, Jake Rogers went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, and Kyle Horton was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs as the Bulldogs routed the Diamondbacks in five innings.
Garrett Holden went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, and Frank Sessa was 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs for Centennial.
Hayden Rosenkrantz allowed just four hits and struck out three for Centennial.
Nic Lane went 2-for-2 with an RBI for Desert Oasis.
Spring Valley 16, Cheyenne 0 — At Spring Valley, Nick Rupp and Kyle Moser combined on a five-inning two-hitter with no walks as the Grizzlies blanked the Desert Shields.
Rupp earned the win and struck out nine in four innings for Spring Valley. Braxton Bruschke was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, and teammates Jaxson Otis and Michael White each supplied two RBIs for the Grizzlies.
Tech 20, Sunrise Mountain 2 — At Sunrise Mountain, Logan Campbell fired a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run as the Roadrunners routed the Miners in five innings.
Alexis Acosta went 3-for-5 with a three-run inside-the-park home run and six RBIs, and teammate Chandler Gehring finished 4-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and five runs for Tech.
Trevor Kephart was 2-for-3 with two triples, four RBIs and two runs, and teammate Jalen Birch and David Gulasarian each added two hits for the Roadrunners.
