BASEBALL: Ruiz, Bengals edge Trailblazers

Danny Ruiz tossed a six-hitter and struck out 11, including the final batter of the game with the potential tying run at third base, to help Bonanza’s baseball team hold off host Durango 6-5 on Thursday.

Ruiz walked two.

Torren Brozovich went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI for the Bengals, who scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead.

Eric Schultz was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Lucas Rosenblatt went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Bonanza. Levi Klump was 2-for-4 for the Bengals.

Shadow Ridge 9, Palo Verde 2 — At Palo Verde, Isaiah Blaylock was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Jake Wilson went 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Mustangs downed the Panthers.

Trevin Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI for Shadow Ridge.

Sam Powers went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Palo Verde.

Cimarron-Memorial 4, Legacy 2 — At Cimarron, Jacob Godman went 2-for-3 with a run, and Jaret Godman was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to help the Spartans edge the Longhorns.

Alexander Marco went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI for Cimarron. Winning pitcher Noah Parker allowed three hits and three walks and struck out eight in five innings.

Austin Michals was 2-for-3 with a double and a run for Legacy.

Green Valley 6, Desert Oasis 1 — At Green Valley, Matt Gilbertson and Justin Caputo combined on a two-hitter to help the Gators top the Diamondbacks.

Frankie Fitzgerald was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and A.J. Amelburu went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Green Valley, which broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth inning.

Las Vegas 6, Wooster 0 — At Las Vegas, Austin Strong carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and settled for a one-hit shutout in the Wildcats’ win over the Colts.

Strong finished with 13 strikeouts.

Antonio Gaxiola had two hits, including a double, and Jason Herrera added two hits for Las Vegas, which scored twice in the first inning and four times in the sixth.

Faith Lutheran 9, Spring Valley 0 — At Spring Valley, Zack Trageton threw six innings of four-hit ball, and went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Crusaders past the Grizzlies.

Trageton struck out eight and worked around four walks.

Robby Schwartz went 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, and Jake Ortega was 2-for-2 with two doubles for Faith Lutheran, which scored five runs in the sixth inning.

Jaxon Otis went 3-for-4, and Jack Sellinger had a triple for Spring Valley.

Bishop Gorman 10, Carson 0 — At Gorman, Zach Grech tossed a five-inning two-hitter as the Gaels downed the Colts in five innings in the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

Marques Paige had two hits and three RBIs, and Austin Wells had two hits and two RBIs for Gorman, which also got two hits from Myles Denson.

Northridge (Colo.) 4, Boulder City 2 — At Boulder City, Kaylor Werner went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to help the Grizzlies down the Eagles.

Chance Eben was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Northridge.

Peyton Koopman went 2-for-3 with a double, and Preston Van Diest was 1-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI for Boulder City.

Clark 12, Mojave 7 — At Mojave, Brendan Palmer went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs to help the Chargers outlast the Rattlers.

Thomas Campbell went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Zachary Graham was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Clark, which built an 8-3 lead in the fourth inning.

Scott Wilson was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Mojave. Otto Hernandez and Andrew Foley each went 2-for-3 for Mojave.

Cheyenne 6, Western 1 — At Cheyenne, Anthony McConnico pitched five strong innings, and George Carmona went 2-for-2 with two RBIs to help the Desert Shields beat the Warriors.

McConnico struck out six batters, including two straight to get out of a bases-loaded threat in the top of the second. Carmona pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Titus Quintanilla drove in two runs for Cheyenne, which scored four times in the bottom of the first.

Adelson School 23, Sandy Valley 8 — At Adelson School, Samuel Shain went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and the Lions beat the Sidewinders in five innings.

Ethan Finkelstein went 2-for-3 with a double, and Mordechai Shirit finished 2-for-4 with a double for Adelson School, which scored 15 runs in the second inning.

Joe Perry added a triple for the Lions.

Lake Mead 21-16, Beaver Dam 1-2 — At Littlefield, Arizona, Zack Brocker and Hunter Harris combined on a no-hitter in the opener as the Eagles swept a doubleheader from the Diamondbacks.

In the first game, Mark Costolo had two hits and five RBIs, and Brocker added two hits and four RBIs to help Lake Mead win in four innings. Mitch Dolinar added four RBIs for Lake Mead.

In the nightcap, Costolo and Joseph Johnson each had three hits as the Eagles won in five innings. Jared Regan had two hits and three RBIs for Lake Mead.
