BASEBALL: Sierra Vista tops Bonanza in extra innings

Matthew Vanderberg doubled home Kaui Kaleopaa in the top of the eighth inning Friday to lift the Sierra Vista baseball team to a 6-5 road win over Bonanza in eight innings.

Vanderberg entered the game in the fifth inning and went 3-for-3 three doubles and two RBIs.

Julio Seperich started on the mound for the Bengals and struck out nine in 5⅔ innings. He did not factor into the decision.

Del Sol 7, Mojave 5 — At Del Sol, Phil Taloma doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Dragons past the Rattlers.

Chandler Miller, Jose Galicia and Tyler Foreman each doubled for the Dragons. Brady Walton drove in two runs, and Gelkis Digurnay also had an RBI for Del Sol.

Foreman struck out five over seven innings to pick up the win.

Elijah Glaze doubled for Mojave.

Green Valley 20, Canyon Springs 7 — At Canyon Springs, Carter Gehlken went 4-for-5 with two triples, a double, four runs scored and two RBIs to help the Gators outslug the Pioneers.

Matt Gilbertson scored three times for Green Valley, and Brandon Bayne and Matt Uran each had three RBIs.

Caleb Andes homered for Canyon Springs.

Silverado 14, Eldorado 2 — At Silverado, the Skyhakws scored eight runs in the first inning and rolled to the five-inning win over the Sundevils.

Dax Fellows was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, four RBIs and two runs to lead Silverado’s offense.

Kevin Pindel went the distance, allowing one earned run on three hits, to get the win. He struck out eight and walked none.

Shadow Ridge 10, Springville (Utah) 5 — At St. George, Utah, Justin Lee homered, had four RBIs and three runs scored as the Mustangs ran away from the Red Devils in the Texas Roadhouse Classic.

Dylan Baker was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs for the Mustangs, who broke a 5-5 tie with five runs in the sixth inning.

Bryson Barnes scored three runs for Shadow Ridge.

Herriman (Utah) 4, Shadow Ridge 2 — At St. George, Utah, Shadow Ridge allowed four runs in the first inning and could not recover in a loss to Herriman in the Texas Roadhouse Classic.

Jesse Meyer hit a solo home run for Shadow Ridge, and Nick Thomas knocked in Bryan Trujillo for the team’s other run.

Shadow Ridge’s bullpen pitched 6⅔ innings and did now allow a run.

Basic 15, Valley 1 — At Valley, Jack Wold went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases in the Wolves’ six-inning victory over the Vikings.

Andrew Rangel was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Wolves, and Brady Clark, Garrett Giles and Christian Rivero all doubled.

Jacob Cruz and Doug Oswalt each were 2-for-3 for the Vikings.

Spring Valley 18, Durango 3 — At Spring Valley, Nick Rupp went 4-for-4 with four RBIs as he led the Grizzlies to a victory over the Trailblazers in four innings.

Rupp was a home run away from hitting for the cycle with a double and two triples.

Spring Valley pitcher Bryce Bullock earned the victory, tossing a complete game and allowed one earned run. Jack Sellinger went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs, and Chase Rodriguez also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Grizzlies.

Pahranagat Valley 3, Sunrise Mountain 2 — At Sunrise Mountain, Dustin Stewart doubled and had two RBIs as the Panthers edged the Miners.

Ike Taylor, Tabor Maxwell and Reese Thornton scored the Panthers’ runs. Donavan Hansen and Roderick Williams, who tripled, scored for the Miners.

Desert Oasis 15, Clark 0 — At Desert Oasis, Brett Brocoff went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and four RBIs in the Diamondbacks’ four-inning win over the Chargers.

Aaron Roberts went 3-for-4 with two doubles for the Diamondbacks, and Chaison Micklich was 2-for-4.

Salem Hills (Utah) 4, Las Vegas 1 — At St. George, Utah, Ben Bowen tossed a complete game, but the Wildcats fell to the Skyhawks in the Texas Roadhouse Classic.

Snow Canyon (Utah) 1, Las Vegas 0 — At St. George, Utah, the Wildcats held the Warriors scoreless through eight innings, but fell in nine innings in the Texas Roadhouse Classic.

Indian Springs 15-12, Round Mountain 0-0 — At Indian Springs, Devon Sickler walked three times, stole three bases and scored four runs in the Thunderbirds’ rout of the Knights in four innings.

Phillip Raimer went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs and a double for the Thunderbirds, who stole 12 bases. Teammate Elyas Jones was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

In the nightcap, Raimer went 2-for-2 with triple, run scored, three RBIs and struck out six on the mound in the Thunderbirds’ five-inning victory.

Zach Williams had a double and two RBIs for the Thunderbirds.

Indian Springs did not allow a hit in either game.

Lincoln County 16-24, Mountain View 0-0 — At Panaca, Tristan Davis threw a perfect game, striking out seven, as the Lynx routed the Saints in three innings.

McKinley O’Connor went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Lynx at the plate.

Mason Thornock and Tristan Davis each went 3-for-3 with a double for Lincoln County.

In the second game, Cody Thornock went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple as the Lynx routed the Saints in three innings.

Hunter Cluff scored on an inside-the-park home run, Kobe Walker tripled, and Allen Toledo and O’Connor each doubled as the Lynx scored 22 runs in the second inning.

Thornock allowed two hits and struck out three to earn the win for the Lynx.

Joseph Collins doubled for Mountain View.

Needles 17-16, Calvary Chapel 0-1 — At Needles, California, eight Mustangs scored a pair of runs as they rolled over the Lions in three innings.

Ezra Ponce went 2-for-2 for Needles, which scored all its runs in the first inning.

In the second game, Dylan Hetrick went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBIs as the Mustangs won in four innings.

Jayden Yeager threw a no-hitter and struck out six.

SLAM Academy 15, Spring Mountain 4 — At Mountain Ridge Park, the Bulls scored seven runs in the first inning to knock off the Golden Eagles.

Tyler Gholston went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Spring Mountain, and Christopher Ortiz walked twice and scored twice.

Laughlin 9-7, The Meadows 3-0 — At Laughlin, the Cougars defeated the Mustangs in the first game of the doubleheader, and won the second by forfeit.
