BASEBALL: Skipper, Trailblazers eliminate Mountain Lions from playoff contention

Jacob Skipper’s two-run double in the bottom of the sixth broke a 5-5 tie and gave Durango’s baseball team a 7-5 home win over Sierra Vista on Thursday.

The loss eliminated the Mountain Lions from playoff contention.

Skipper was 3-for-4 to lead the Trailblazers.

Artie Gallegos, John Wright and Vince Lombardi each supplied two hits for Durango. Lombardi also picked up a save.

Nolan Kingham had a two-run double, a single and a run, and Bailey Welter added two hits for Sierra Vista.

Arbor View 17, Spring Valley 6 — At Spring Valley, Kaid Urban went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, three runs and three RBIs as the Aggies beat the Grizzlies.

Sam Pastrone was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, and Nick Quintana hit two doubles and scored four runs for Arbor View, which broke the game open with seven runs in the third inning. Gabe Gonzalez also went 3-for-5 for the Aggies.

Zane Drachler went 3-for-3 with two doubles for Spring Valley.

Green Valley 11, Las Vegas 1 — At Green Valley, Cody Milner was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Blake Inouye hit a three-run homer to highlight a six-run third inning as the Gators topped the Wildcats in five innings.

Keola Paragas was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Green Valley. Jarrett Perns allowed one run on five hits in four innings with five strikeouts to get the win.

Rancho 14, Valley 0 — At Valley, Cody Suarez was 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs, and four pitchers combined on a four-hitter as the Rams routed the Vikings in five innings.

Jose Verdugo was 3-for-3, and Bryce Harrell and Josh Mill each added three hits for Rancho.

Silverado 14, Canyon Springs 3 — At Silverado, Nick Kawano went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and three RBIs to lead the Skyhawks in a five-inning rout of Canyon Springs.

James Skelly allowed no runs on three hits and had three strikeouts in his four innings of work to get the win. Dillon Johnson and Jordan Thomson also doubled for Silverado.

Canyon Springs’ Isiah Carter went 2-for-2 with a run and three stolen bases.

Moapa Valley 7, Tech 3 — At Moapa Valley, Jared Repp tossed a four-hitter with seven strikeouts to guide the Pirates to victory over the Roadrunners.

Chad Jones was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Kannon Evans added two hits and two runs for Moapa Valley.

Chandler Gehring had a two-run double, and Elias Peinado supplied a two-run single for Tech.

Chaparral 15, Desert Pines 2 — At Desert Pines, Tyler Crone tossed a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk, leading the Cowboys to a five-inning win over the Jaguars.

Crone also went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs, and his brother, Tommy Crone, was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs.

Matt Ellison went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs, while Luis Giro was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs for the Cowboys.

Boulder City 17, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Boulder City, Austin Wishard was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and the Eagles routed the Miners in five innings.

Mario Castanon went the distance for Boulder City, allowing three hits and striking out six. Castanon also had four RBIs, including a run-scoring triple in the Eagles’ nine-run fourth inning.

Preston Van Diest added a double and drove in three runs. Peyton Koopman was 2-for-2 with a double, and Nolan Desantis finished 2-for-2 with two runs.

Josh Brown, Jesus Jimenez and Jace Weaver had Sunrise Mountain’s hits.

Eldorado 14, Cheyenne 0 — At Eldorado, Jordan Bowden was 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and four RBIs to lead the Sundevils by the Desert Shields in five innings.

Jason DeMaria and Miguel Sanchez each went 2-for-3 with a double, and Joshua Brown added two hits, including a double, for Eldorado.

Nicholas Zink doubled for Cheyenne.

The Meadows 13-13, Needles 20-7 — At The Meadows, winning pitcher Alexander Agrawal had five RBIs as The Meadows won the nightcap of a doubleheader with Needles.

Adam Martinez had four hits, and Conor Cheek and Austin Neal each added three hits for The Meadows, which earned the No. 2 seed for the Division III Southern League playoffs by virtue of its win in the second game. The Meadows carried a 5-2 lead into the sixth before Needles scored twice to trim the margin to 5-4. The Meadows then responded with eight runs in the bottom of the inning.

Trenton Poe-Evans had three RBIs for Needles.

In the opener, Needles used a nine-run fifth inning to erase a 13-9 deficit. Jason Neverov had three hits, and Mason Paget drove in four runs for Needles.

Jacob Gleason had three hits for The Meadows.
