BASEBALL: Spring Valley opens season with combined no-hitter of Boulder City

Spring Valley starting pitcher Nick Rupp and reliever Jaxson Otis combined on a no-hitter, as the Grizzlies’ baseball team blanked host Boulder City 6-0 on Thursday.

Otis earned the win with five innings of scoreless relief and seven strikeouts for Spring Valley, which got two innings and four strikeouts from Rupp.

Jonathan Bakken and Jack Sellinger each went 2-for-3 for the Grizzlies, who got a triple from Rupp.

Rancho 6, Arbor View 0 — At Rancho, the Rams allowed five hits in their shutout of the Aggies.

Layton Walls started for Rancho and threw four innings, and Tanner Ray threw the final three.

Joey Walls led the Rancho offense with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

Green Valley 2, Centennial 1 — At Green Valley, Gavin Amelburu’s home run in the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Gators over the Bulldogs in the Diamondback Kickoff Tournament.

Matt Gilbertson threw six innings for the Gators, allowing a run on four hits before giving way to Frankie Fitzgerald, who pitched a perfect seventh to record the save.

Garrett Holden recorded a six-inning complete game for the Bulldogs, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks.

Legacy 2, Green Valley 1 — At Green Valley, Johnny Ball tossed a two-hitter, and Forrest Grevelis went 2-for-3 with a double to help the Longhorns down the Gators in the Diamondback Kickoff Tournament.

Grevelis threw out a Green Valley runner attempting to steal second to end the game.

Jordan Crawford and Diego Portillo drove in runs for Legacy.

Carter Gehlken went 1-for-3 with a double, and Matt Uran had Green Valley’s other hit. A.J. Amelburu drove in the Gators’ lone run.

Desert Oasis 2, Palo Verde 1 — At Desert Oasis, Kyle Fuentes scored on a walk-off wild pitch to lift the Diamondbacks over the Panthers in the Diamondback Kickoff Tournament.

Fuentes singled in the seventh, then advanced to third on a bunt single by Nic Lane. He scored two batters later.

Brett Brocoff pitched five innings for the Diamondbacks, striking out seven and allowing one hit. Lane pitched a scoreless seventh to get the win.

Desert Oasis 6, Bishop Manogue 0 — At Desert Oasis, Aaron Roberts and Josh Sharman combined for a Diamondbacks’ shutout of the Miners in the Diamondback Kickoff Tournament.

Roberts threw 5 ⅔ innings before giving way to Sharman for the final four outs.

Chaison Miklich went 2-for-3 with a double and a homer for the Diamondbacks.

Centennial 10, Legacy 1 — At Green Valley, Kyle Horton’s fourth-inning grand slam capped an eight-run frame as the Bulldogs rolled by the Longhorns in the Diamondback Kickoff Tournament.

Horton finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Centennial’s Austin Kryszczuk and Jake Rogers each had a double.

Centennial’s Zack Simons allowed the one run on three hits over five innings. Payton Moody threw a scoreless sixth and seventh inning for the Bulldogs.

Palo Verde 7, Bishop Manogue 0 — At Desert Oasis, three Panthers combined for a one-hit shutout as they routed the Miners in the Diamondback Kickoff Tournament.

Dylan Orlando started for the Panthers, spreading seven strikeouts across four hitless innings. Rick Guzman followed for Palo Verde, allowing a hit in 1 ⅔ innings, and Jacob Godman tossed 1 ⅓ perfect innings.

Jaret Godman went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double for the Panthers.

Cimarron-Memorial 7, Snow Canyon (Utah) 3 — At St. George, Utah, Cody Koslowski went five innings and allowed two runs with five strikeouts to lead the Spartans over the Warriors in the K.J. Harrison Classic.

Lasith Narasinghe had a double and a run scored for the Spartans, and Zach Culver and Jackson Folkman each scored two runs.

Derek Decolati pitched a perfect seventh inning with a pair of strikeouts for the Spartans.

Foothill 6, Faith Lutheran 5 — At Foothill, Anthony Pannullo went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and the Falcons held off the Crusaders in six innings in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Tyler Kara doubled and drove in three runs, and Chayse Parenteau added an RBI for Foothill, which led 6-3 after five innings.

Lucas Dockery went 2-for-3, and Sagan Gronauer, Jacob Ortega and Michael Rice had RBIs for Faith Lutheran.

Silverado 8, Durango 3 — At Durango, Dax Fellows went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs to lead the Skyhawks over the Trailblazers in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Kevin Pindel was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Skyhawks, who scored three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead.

Michael Janosik threw four shutout innings of relief to get the win.

Richard Mascarenas and Josh Barry each went 3-for-4 with a double for Durango.

Bonanza 10, Highland (Calif.) 0 — At Bonanza, Luis Lares and Davis Dunkley combined for the Bengals to no-hit the Bulldogs in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Lares threw the first five innings and struck out five, and Dunkley struck out one in his one inning of works.

Jay DeSoto went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double and four RBIs to power the Bengals. Teammate Matthew Cox went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Coronado 14, Centennial (Ariz.) 1 — At Phoenix, Boston Mabeus’ homer and two RBIs led an offensive attack that powered the Cougars by the Coyotes in the Boras Classic.

Garett Lake went 2-for-2 with a triple for Coronado, and Anthony Carro had a double and three RBIs.

Coronado’s Kyle Hall got the win with five innings of one-run ball.

Coronado 8, Campo Verde (Ariz.) 4 — At Phoenix, Ryan Murphy threw 5 ⅔ innings and allowed two runs to record the win for the Cougars over the Coyotes in the Boras Classic.

Noah Hemphill went 2-for-3 for the Cougars, and Jake McLean had a double and an RBI.

Basic 4, ThunderRidge (Colo.) 0 — At Phoenix, C.J. Dornak tossed a one-hitter and struck out six to lead the Wolves by the Grizzlies in the Boras Classic.

Trace Evans went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Basic, which scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Roger Riley and John Howard Bobo each went 1-for-3 with a double for the Wolves, who had only four hits.

Basic 8, Catalina Foothills (Ariz.) 5 — At Phoenix, Erik Cruz went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBI to lead the Wolves past the Falcons in the Boras Classic.

Evans struck out two batters in two innings to pick up the win. Paul Myro picked up the save.

Evans also doubled for the Wolves. Bobo went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored, and Jack Wold went 3-for-4 with a run scored for Basic.

Eldorado 12, Desert Pines 5 — At Eldorado, Travis Bowe went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Sundevils over the Jaguars in the Sundevil Invitational.

Mario Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a double for Eldorado.

Juan Castaneda and Turner Klingenmeier each doubled for Desert Pines.

Chaparral 13, Clark 1 — At Chaparral, Connor Jarvis had two doubles and drove in three runs to lead the Cowboys past the Chargers in the Sundevil Invitational.

James Cobian pitched the final three innings to earn the win. He struck out five and didn’t allow a hit. Erick Villareal started the game and allowed one run on two hits. He fanned four over two innings.

Del Sol 1, Mojave 1 — At Eldorado, the Dragons and Rattlers played to tie after an issue with the lights on the field in the Sundevil Invitational.

Jason Rolland had Del Sol’s lone RBI, and teammate Tyler Foreman went four innings and had four strikeouts.

River Valley (Ariz.) 6, Pahrump Valley 5 — At Mohave Valley, Arizona, Cole Walker had a double and two RBIs, but the Trojans fell to the Dust Devils in the Route 66 Tournament.

Dylan Grossell threw a complete game for the Trojans.

Lake Havasu (Ariz.) 8, Pahrump Valley 0 — At Mohave Valley, Arizona, Lucas Garrett struck out six and allowed only two earned runs in five innings, but the Trojans came up short against the Knights in the Route 66 Tournament.

Needles 5, Palo Verde Valley (Calif.) 1 — At Needles, California, the Mustangs scored a pair of runs in the second and third innings to down the Yellowjackets in the Route 66 Tournament.

Needles 11, Many Farms (Ariz.) 2 — At Needles, California, the Mustangs exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning to rout the Lobos in the Route 66 Tournament.

Liberty at Las Vegas — The Sunrise League game between the Patriots and the Wildcats was suspended after seven innings because of darkness.

Las Vegas rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4, and darkness halted play after the seventh.

The game will be completed later in the season.
