BASEBALL: Trailblazers top Panthers behind Marracco’s arm

Collin Marracco threw a five-hitter and struck out five Wednesday as Durango’s baseball team held on for a 4-2 win over visiting Palo Verde in a matchup of Southwest League opponents.
Kaito Sukeyasu was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for the Trailblazers, and teammate Richard Mascarenas went 2-for-3 with a double. Duke Pahukoa and Joey Shawhan each had a double for Durango, which led 4-1 after four innings.
The Trailblazers improved to 3-2 in the league, and are tied for second place with Shadow Ridge.
J.D. Brooks threw a complete game and was 1-for-2 with a double for Palo Verde, which fell to 1-3 in the league.
Legacy 11, Shadow Ridge 8 — At Shadow Ridge, Jordan Brown went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and two RBIs, and Daniel Zaragoza was 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI as the Longhorns rallied by the Mustangs.
Winning pitcher Donta Williams was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, and Anthony Golemme was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs for Legacy, which trailed 8-6 after three innings.
Eric Jordan went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Tyler Burton drove in three runs for Shadow Ridge.
Moapa Valley 5, Desert Pines 4 — At Overton, Anthony Cornwall was 2-for-3 with a double, and Chaz Cornwall went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs as the Pirates edged the Jaguars.
Koby Frei struck out six in three innings before J.R. Redd picked up the win in four innings of relief for Moapa Valley, which led 5-2 after four innings.
Andres Corbett pitched a complete game and went 1-for-3 with a triple for Desert Pines.
Tech 7, Del Sol 4 — At Arroyo Grande Park, Sebastian Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run to lead the Roadrunners over the Dragons.
Fitzgerald also went the distance to pick up the win, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts.
Alexis Acosta was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and teammate Chandler Gehring went 2-for-4 with two runs for Tech.
Del Sol’s Zach Trujillo was 2-for-4 with a double.
Las Vegas 11, Valley 1 — At Las Vegas, Brandon Culmo threw a five-hitter, allowing an unearned run and striking out five, to lead the Wildcats to the five-inning victory over the Vikings.
Hector Perez was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, and Antonio Gaxiola supplied two hits and two RBIs for Las Vegas, which jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning.
Jacob Cruz had two hits for Valley.
Silverado 8, Canyon Springs 0 — At Canyon Springs, Dillon Johnson went 4-for-4 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs to lead the Skyhawks over the Pioneers.
Jordan Thomson pitched five shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out four, to get the win.
Chaparral 12, Virgin Valley 1 — At Chaparral, Eric Villareal spun a two-hitter with five strikeouts as the Cowboys routed the Bulldogs in five innings.
Tyler Crone was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs, and Brandon Scott supplied two hits and three RBIs for Chaparral, which scored seven runs in the third inning to pull away.
Boulder City 16, Sunrise Mountain 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, Jake Hubel went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBIs to lead the Eagles to the five-inning win over the Miners.
Hubel also went the distance, allowing an unearned run on four hits, to get the win. He struck out eight with no walks.
Peyton Koopman and Seth Kermode each went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Mike Morelli was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI for Boulder City.
Rancho JV 7, Pahranagat Valley 6 — At Rancho, the Rams junior varsity scored in the bottom of the seventh to edge the Panthers.
Paden Higbee, Christian Higbee and Jordan Cryts each had two hits for Pahranagat Valley.
