BASEBALL: Two-run bunt lifts Gators to win in Lions Tournament

A.J. Amelburu drove in the tying and winning runs on a bunt single with one out in the top of the seventh inning Monday to help Green Valley’s baseball team to a 5-2 win over Granite Hills (Calif.) in the Lions Tournament in El Cajon, Calif.
The Gators trailed 2-1 before Drake Maningo and Ty Burger drew consecutive walks to start the seventh. After a sacrifice, Amelburu reached on a bunt single that plated both Maningo and Burger.
Jarod Penniman then belted a two-run home run to make the score 5-2.
Amelburu went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Green Valley.
Blake Inouye tossed a five-hitter and struck out six for the Gators.
Silverado 11, Helix (Calif.) 6 — At San Diego, Dillon Johnson was 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, four runs and three RBIs as the Skyhawks topped the Highlanders in the Lions Tournament.
Vince Taormina was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and Payton Ballard was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for Silverado. Mitchell Ballard was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI for the Skyhawks.
La Jolla Country Day (Calif.) 1, Desert Oasis 0 — At La Jolla, Calif., Alfonso Rivas fired a two-hitter with eight strikeouts, and the Torreys edged the Diamondbacks in the Lions Tournament.
La Jolla Country Day scored the game’s lone run in the sixth when a two-out error put a runner on, and Brandon Nance delivered an RBI double.
Nolan Kingham threw a three-hitter with nine strikeouts for Desert Oasis.
Carlsbad (Calif.) 2, Rancho 1 — At Carlsbad, Calif., the Lancers scored on an error with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to top the Rams in the Lions Tournament.
Rancho’s Kavion Kealoha allowed a run on two hits with six strikeouts in seven innings. He also went 2-for-4.
Madison (Calif.) 7, Coronado 0 — At San Diego, the Warhawks used a five-run fourth inning to top the Cougars in the Lions Tournament.
Sterling Saltz was 2-for-3, and Dakota Humphries was 1-for-2 for Coronado.
Sonora (Calif.) 6, Boulder City 0 — At Anaheim, Calif., Matt Schmidt tossed a four-hitter and struck out six to lead the Raiders by the Eagles in the Anaheim Lions Tournament.
Nolan Desantis was 2-for-3 for Boulder City.
Ramona (Calif.) 10, Boulder City 0 — At Anaheim, Calif., the Rams routed the Eagles in five innings in the Anaheim Lions Tournament.
