BASEBALL: Wieger leads Rams to win in Lions tournament

Andrew Wieger tossed a two-hitter, striking out three and walking one, to help Rancho’s baseball team defeat El Camino Real (Calif.) 10-0 in five innings at the Lions Tournament in La Mesa, Calif.
David Modler was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Juan Cruz went 2-for-3 with a double for the Rams, who scored in every inning. Jose Verdugo was 2-for-4 for Rancho.
Foothill 6, Calvary Christian (Calif.) 3 — At San Diego, Bligh Madris belted a grand slam during a six-run seventh inning that lifted the Falcons by Calvary Christian in the Lions Tournament.
Foothill trailed 1-0 entering the seventh but loaded the bases on an error, a walk and a single. Nick Cardinale reached on an error that allowed Spencer Throgmorton to score the tying run.
After a strikeout and a fielder’s choice, Madris gave the Falcons the lead with his grand slam. Ryan Moyes singled and scored later in the inning.
Madris finished 3-for-4 for Foothill.
Tyler Van Stone tossed a six-hitter, striking out four, to get the win.
Green Valley 6, Vista (Calif.) 3 — At El Cajon, Calif., Keola Paragas’ two-run single capped a three-run rally with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to help the Gators top Vista in the Lions Tournament.
Jarrett Perns went 3-for-3 and scored three runs, and Cody Milner was 3-for-4 with a run for Green Valley.
Ryan Jackson tossed a six-hitter, walking three and striking out five for the Gators.
Kennedy (Calif.) 11, Silverado 4 — At San Diego, Kennedy scored three in the fourth and three in the sixth to top Skyhawks in the Lions Tournament.
Nick Kawano went 3-for-4 for Silverado, which got two hits apiece from Kevin Pindel and Mitchell Ballard.
Ramona (Calif.) 7, Coronado 1 — At Ramona, Calif., C.J. Broussard tossed a five-hitter to lead the Bulldogs by the Cougars in the Lions Tournament.
Tanner Bellamy was 3-for-3 with a home run for Coronado.
