BASEBALL: Yanchisin, Spartans cruise to tournament title

Jamie Yanchisin went 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs to help Cimarron-Memorial’s baseball team rout Skyline (Utah), 12-1 in the championship game of the Little Caesar’s Invitational in St. George, Utah on Saturday.

Alexander Marco was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Larry Quaney and Tyler Giovinco each went 2-for-3 for the Spartans.

Micquel Robinson was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI for Cimarron.

Cimarron-Memorial 18, Provo (Utah) 5 — At St. George, Utah, the Spartans had 10 straight hits to start the bottom of the first inning and scored 11 times in the inning on their way to a five-inning rout of Provo in the semifinals of the Little Caesar’s Classic.

Logan Bottrell was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Trevor Lippard was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Cimarron. Niko Decolati was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs, and Robinson was 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs for Cimarron.

Adam Mitchell went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Spartans.

Foothill 12, Virgin Valley 0 — At Eldorado, Bligh Madris and Shay Landers combined on a five-inning no-hitter to lead the Falcons by the Bulldogs in the Sundevil Invitational.

Madris, who struck out six and didn’t allow a walk in four innings, became the third Foothill starter in four games to be pulled while throwing a no-hitter.

Landers struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Jack Fredericksen was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Alex Mathis went 2-for-3 with a double for Foothill.

Foothill 11, Mojave 0 — At Eldorado, Zack Avery and Austin Wilson combined on a five-inning two-hitter as the Falcons rolled by the Rattlers in the Sundevil Invitational.

Avery allowed one hit and struck out six in the first four innings.

Ryan Moyes was 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs, and Landers went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs for Foothill.

Coronado 3-4, Shadow Ridge 4-3 — At Coronado, Sterling Saltz scored the winning run on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning of the second game to allow the Cougars to salvage a split with the Mustangs in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Saltz reached on an error to begin the bottom of the seventh before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a fly out.

Nate Ruiz went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI for Coronado.

Dustin McDonald was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Shadow Ridge.

In the opener, Brady Hoskins went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Francisco Robles was 2-for-3 with an RBI to help the Mustangs edge the Cougars.

Tyler Burton was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Eric Jordan was 2-for-4 for Shadow Ridge.

Saltz went 2-for-3 with a double, and Tanner Bellamy was 2-for-5 with a double for Coronado.

Faith Lutheran 10-2, Chaparral 0-1 — At Faith Lutheran, Blake Giuliani’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning plated Alex Giuliani with the winning run and allowed the Crusaders to finish a sweep of the Cowboys in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Alex Giuliani singled to lead off the seventh, moved to second on an error and to third on a sacrifice bunt before scoring on the fly ball.

In the opener, Jordan Dreibelbis tossed a five-inning one-hitter and struck out four to lead the Crusaders to the victory.

Joshua Harmonay was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs for Faith Lutheran.

Spring Valley 1-8, Rapid City Central (S.D.) 0-6 — At Spring Valley, Zane Drachler picked up a pair of saves as the Grizzlies swept the doubleheader in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Jaxson Otis threw six scoreless innings, allowing two hits, to get the win in the first game. The Grizzlies scored the game’s only run on an RBI single by Bryce Bullock in the bottom of the first.

Cody Watkins was 2-for-3 for the Grizzlies.

In the second game, Otis and Nick Melinchok each drove in two runs to help the Grizzlies to the win.

Watkins was 3-for-4 with a double, and Michael Macove went 2-for-4 for Spring Valley, which led 7-1 after three innings.

Silverado 5-15, Bonanza 4-4 — At Bonanza, Nick Kawano’s two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh inning of the opener propelled the Skyhawks to a sweep of the Bengals in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Silverado trailed 3-0 after four innings of the first game before rallying. Kawano was 2-for-3, and Dillon Johnson and Vincent Taormina each added two hits for the Skyhawks.

Casey Ladeira was 3-for-4 with a double for Bonanza.

In the nightcap, Kawano went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs, and Taormina belted a grand slam in a nine-run fourth inning as Silverado rolled.

Taormina went 3-for-4 in the second game.

Spencer Faught was 3-for-3 with a home run, and Eric Schultz also homered for Bonanza.

Palo Verde 5-15, Legacy 4-12 — At Palo Verde, Yodai Nakamura went 2-for-3 in the opener and 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs in the nightcap as the Panthers swept the Longhorns in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Will Hamilton was 3-for-4, and Trevor Jackson went 2-for-4 in the opener as the Panthers used a five-run second inning to erase a 4-0 deficit.

In the finale, Mitchell Rathbun was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Sam Powers went 2-for-3 with an RBI and four runs to help Palo Verde come back from an 8-1 second-inning deficit.

Quentin Ewing was 5-for-5 with a triple, four RBIs and four runs, and Donta Williams was 3-for-4 with two doubles for the Longhorns.

Centennial 7, Bishop Manogue 3 — At Sierra Vista, Kyle Horton was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Bulldogs over the Miners in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Travis Stevens was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Jacob Horton went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Centennial, which scored four runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead.

Green Valley 12, Sierra Vista 4 — At Sierra Vista, Andrew Hatch was 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs to lead the Gators over the Mountain Lions in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Jarrett Perns was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, and Keaton Smith was 3-for-5 for Green Valley.

Cole Crosby went 2-for-3 with a triple for Sierra Vista.

Sierra Vista 10, Bishop Manogue 3 — At Sierra Vista, Caeden Marin was 2-for-2 and had a three-run triple to highlight a six-run fourth inning as the Mountain Lions beat the Miners in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Crosby was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs for Sierra Vista.

Centennial 9, Green Valley 3 — At Sierra Vista, Porter Rosenkrantz went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run to help the Bulldogs defeat the Gators in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Cooper Powell was 2-for-4 with a run for Centennial, which scored three runs in the top of the first and never trailed.

Smith was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs for Green Valley.

Durango 4, Desert Oasis 2 — At Desert Oasis, the Trailblazers plated three runs in the top of the ninth and held on to beat the Diamondbacks in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

John Wright led off the inning with a double and scored on a squeeze bunt by Dustin Levin. Joey Shawhan squeezed home another run, and Bobby Gallegos had an RBI single.

Durango had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the eighth, but Desert Oasis tied it on a squeeze bunt by Chase Adams.

Wright was 2-for-4 with a double and got the win in relief of Vince Lombardi, who threw six scoreless innings. Lombardi gave up four hits and struck out three.

Durango 7, Basic 4 — At Desert Oasis, Anthony Parry was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs to lead the Trailblazers over the Wolves in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Jacob Skipper went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Durango, which jumped on Basic for five runs in the top of the first.

Cory Wills was 2-for-3 with two runs for the Wolves.

Basic 3, Arbor View 2 — At Desert Oasis, Josh McLean tossed an eight-hitter and wiggled out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Wolves by the Aggies in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Arbor View loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but McLean got Nick Quintana to pop out to shortstop to end the game.

Ryne Nelson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Skyler Mahoney went 2-for-4 with a double for Basic. Jack Wold was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Wolves.

Quintana was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, and Kaid Urban went 3-for-4 with a double for the Aggies.

Arbor View 12, Desert Oasis 10 — At Desert Oasis, Gabe Gonzalez went 4-for-5 with a double and four RBIs, and the Aggies scored 11 runs in the final four innings to edge the Diamondbacks in the Lion Kickoff Tournament.

Quintana was 4-for-5 with three doubles and an RBI, and Jayce Gardner had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs for Arbor View, which scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 12-6 lead.

Dominic Paratore went 5-for-5 with two triples, a double, three runs and three RBIs for Desert Oasis.

Rancho 9, Canyon View (Utah) 4 — At Rancho, Kavion Kealoha was 4-for-4 with three doubles, four RBIs and two runs to power the Rams to the win.

Richmond Ashworth was 3-for-3 with two stolen bases for Rancho, which scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away.

Cody Suarez went the distance to get the win.

Liberty 13, Canyon View (Utah) 0 — At Rancho, Ethan Ibarra went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and the Patriots used a seven-run fourth inning to rout Canyon View in a five-inning game.

Josh McCollum was 3-for-3, and Preston Pavlica went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for Liberty.

The Meadows 14, Williams (Ariz.) 9 — At Needles, Calif., Connor Cheek drove in four runs to help the Mustangs down Williams in the Route 66 Tournament.
