CORONADO
Head coach: David Padilla, sixth season
2012 record: 29-10 (11-3 Southeast)
Returning lettermen (starters): 15 (seven)
Top players: P Dylan Myers (Sr.), P/IF Chandler Blanchard (Sr.), P/IF Julian Burrola (Sr.), OF Miles Bice (Sr.), IF/OF Michael Pollex (Sr.), IF Cain Brady (Sr.), IF Tyler Brown (Sr.)
Outlook: The Cougars return 15 lettermen from a team that advanced to the Class 4A state final last season.
University of San Diego signee Myers (10-0, 2.51 ERA, 48 strikeouts) and Pepperdine signee Blanchard (4-2, 3.18 ERA, 52 K) will lead a pitching staff that also includes Burrola (4-0, 2.52 ERA).
Offensively, Coronado has plenty of weapons including Blanchard (.340, 5 HR, 23 RBIs), Bice (.373, 38 RBIs, 19 steals), Brown (.414, 22 RBIs, 11 SB) and Pollex (.387, 3 HR, 18 RBIs).
"Many returners have two seasons of varsity under their belt and will be looked upon to contribute," said Padilla, who brings back his entire starting infield. "This year's team looks to be contenders in the Southeast League, but will face many challenges from teams like Liberty, Foothill and Basic.
"With timely hitting and quality pitching, the Cougars look to return to the region playoffs and try to get back to the state tournament."
