COWBOY CLASSIC: Wallace, Dragons edge Roadrunners

Christian Wallace’s single in the bottom of the fifth inning Monday plated Nathan Fenn with the go-ahead run to lift Del Sol’s baseball team to a 2-1 win over Tech in the Cowboy Classic at Chaparral.

Wallace went 2-for-3 for the Dragons.

Nick Trujillo tossed a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk for Del Sol.

Logan Campbell and Abel Martinez combined on a three-hitter for Tech.

Chaparral 9, Valley 3 — At Chaparral, Daniel Herrera was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs to help the Cowboys top the Vikings.

Chaparral’s Chad Clark was 2-for-4 with a double and combined with Jose Ortiz on a five-hitter.

Chaparral 4, Tech 3 — At Chaparral, Matt Ellison’s single to center field keyed a four-run top of the sixth inning and lifted the Cowboys past the Roadrunners.

With the bases loaded, Ellison singled up the middle, and the ball was misplayed allowing three runs to score and tying the game. Ellison came home on Tech’s second error of the inning.

Luis Giro was 2-for-3 with a double for the Cowboys.

Martinez was 3-for-3, and Zach West and Chandler Gehring each added two hits for Tech.

Mojave 10, Virgin Valley 0 — At Mojave, Tyson Goodrich fired a no-hitter to lead the Rattlers to the five-inning win over the Bulldogs.

Goodrich struck out four and hit two batters. He also doubled for one of Mojave’s four hits.

The Rattlers also took advantage of eight walks and three hit batters.

Mojave 7, Pahrump Valley 2 — At Mojave, Alex Smith threw a five-hitter, allowing one earned run with eight strikeouts, to lead the Rattlers over the Trojans.

Smith also went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs .

Tyler Ledgister was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs, and Goodrich was 2-for-3 with a double for Mojave.

Cheyenne 14, Virgin Valley 1 — At Mojave, Brian Corder tossed a six-hitter and struck out 10 as the Desert Shields downed the Bulldogs.

Korey Poole went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs for Cheyenne, which led 7-1 in the second inning and scored seven runs in the seventh.

Eldorado 13, Canyon Springs 3 — At Eldorado, Jason DiMaria went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Sundevils over the Pioneers in five innings.

Miguel Sanchez and Trevor Swain each went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Eldorado.

Joseph Torres went the distance to get the win, allowing seven hits with five strikeouts.

Eldorado 12, Desert Pines 2 — At Eldorado, Torres went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Jordan Bowden was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs to lead the Sundevils to the five-inning win.

Sanchez and Don DiMaggio each went 2-for-3 with two runs for Eldorado, which scored seven runs in the second inning and five in the third.

Isaac Villanueva went the distance, allowing one earned run on seven hits, to get the win. He struck out six and walked one.
