Bishop Gorman baseball standout Joey Gallo was named to the USA Baseball 18U National Team on Friday.
Gallo, who will be a senior infielder and pitcher for the Gaels next season, is the only player from Nevada on the roster.
He went 1-for-2 in a 12-1 loss to the Collegiate National Team in Game 1 of the Prospect Classic at Durham, N.C., on Friday.
“I think it’s great for him,” Gorman coach Nick Day said of Gallo’s selection. “It says that you’re one of the top 20 or 30 players in the country. It’s a great honor.”
As a junior, Gallo was named the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s state player of the year after he batted .471 with 25 home runs and 78 RBIs.
Earlier this week, Gallo was named to USA Today’s All-USA Second Team. He was one of only two juniors selected to the squad.
