Gorman’s Gallo selected for national team trials

Bishop Gorman infielder and right-hander Joey Gallo was named to the USA Baseball 18U National Team Trials roster Monday.

Gallo, who will be a senior at Gorman next season, was the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s state player of the year as a junior after he batted .471 with 25 home runs and 78 RBIs.

The trials began Monday at Cary, N.C., and will conclude Thursday.

Gallo also was recently selected to the Louisville Slugger High School All-American First Team, joining Green Valley senior-to-be second baseman Evan Van Hoosier, former Sierra Vista shortstop Jake Hager, Gorman senior-to-be right-hander Cody Roper and former Rancho third baseman/right-hander Kevin Kline.
