I-A BASEBALL: Rupp leads Grizzlies to five-inning win over Chaparral

Nick Rupp threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks to lead Spring Valley’s baseball team to an 11-0, five-inning win over visiting Chaparral in the Division I-A Southern Region tournament.

Alex Gomez had four RBIs, and Jake Sellinger hit a double and triple for Spring Valley (17-12).

Junior Maldonado was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the Grizzlies, who play at Boulder City (22-9) at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Chaparral (19-9) hosts Pahrump Valley (21-12-1) at 3:30 p.m. in an elimination game.

Faith Lutheran 10, Moapa Valley 0 — At Faith Lutheran, Chad Jones was 3-for-3 with three doubles, two runs and an RBI as the Crusaders routed the Pirates in five innings.

Joshua Harmonay went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and three RBIs, and Zach Trageton was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs for Faith Lutheran (25-6), which will host Sierra Vista (14-16) at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Brandon Davis and Dominic Grant combined on a two-hitter for Faith Lutheran.

Moapa Valley (11-10) plays Tech (18-10-1) in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Sierra Vista 13, Tech 5 — At Tech, Sierra Vista scored five in the opening inning and five more in the third en route to the win over the Roadrunners.

Dillon Larson had a three-run home run, and Cade Burdett drove in two runs with a double for Sierra Vista.

Sebastian Fitzgerald hit two doubles with an RBI for Tech.

Boulder City 10, Pahrump Valley 0 — At Boulder City, Peyton Koopman threw a two-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk as the Eagles beat the Trojans in five innings.

Koopman also went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Steve Wagner was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Boulder City, which plated seven runs in the fourth inning.
