Looking ahead at the week in high school sports

It’s spring break in the Clark County School District, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any compelling high school sports events. Here’s a look at some of the most compelling.
BASEBALL
Monday-Wednesday — Blazer Spring Bash
The annual tournament hosted by Durango will have games at Centennial, Cimarron-Memorial, Shadow Ridge, Sierra Vista and Las Vegas High as well as the host school. Ten local teams will compete, with championship games in two brackets contested on Wednesday.
Monday-Wednesday — Grizzly Invitational
Spring Valley’s round robin tournament will feature five teams: Spring Valley, Legacy, Moapa Valley, Boulder City and Bonanza.
Monday-Wednesday — Cowboy Classic
Chaparral hosts a 12-team tournament with games at Chaparral, Del Sol, Tech and Eldorado. The tournament features four pools, with the championship game scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Chaparral.
SOFTBALL
Thursday-Saturday — Spring Jamboree
Nine local teams, including host Centennial, are entered in the prestigious tournament that takes place at Majestic Park.
TRACK AND FIELD
Monday — FAT Field Meet at Desert Pines, 8 a.m.
The Jaguars host the only track meet in Southern Nevada this week, and will welcome Arbor View, Bishop Gorman, Desert Oasis, Faith Lutheran, Las Vegas, Rancho and Sunrise Mountain. The Gaels’ boys team has won its last four meets, including the Blaine Thompson Memorial Track Classic.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Monday-Tuesday — Las Vegas Easter Tournament
Las Vegas High will host its annual two-day Easter Tournament and bring in several of Southern Nevada’s top teams, including Arbor View, Centennial, Coronado, Palo Verde and Shadow Ridge.
