The sixth-ranked Cougars travel to No. 2 Gorman in an interesting nonleague matchup.

Tuesday — Rancho at Silverado, 3:30 p.m.

The Rams have a new coach, but are off to a strong start in the Sunrise League with a 3-1 record. The Skyhawks, who are 1-1, should provide a good test.

Tuesday — Green Valley at Liberty, 3:30 p.m.

Green Valley is 3-0 in the Sunrise League and is coming off a win over top-ranked Basic. The Patriots, meanwhile, need to get going if they’re going to be contenders after a 1-2 start.

Saturday — Desert Oasis at Bishop Gorman, 3:30 p.m.

This is a key Southwest League matchup, as both teams are 3-0. Desert Oasis is ranked No. 3 and the Gaels No. 2.

BOYS GOLF

Palo Verde, the defending state champion, edged Faith Lutheran by five shots in the first league match of the season. Can the Crusaders turn the tables at Canyon Gate?

Wednesday — Class 3A Sunrise League match, noon

Virgin Valley, led by Austen Ancell, should get a push from Boulder City in the first league match of the season at Wildhorse.

SOFTBALL

Monday — Silverado at Coronado, 3:30 p.m.

Both teams enter undefeated in Class 4A Sunrise League play, though this represents the first major test in league for both teams.

Monday — Desert Oasis at Faith Lutheran, 3:30 p.m.

The visiting Diamondbacks should provide a test for the undefeated Crusaders, whose transition to Class 4A has been a smooth one thus far.

Wednesday —Pahrump Valley at Boulder City, 3:30 p.m.

Two of the top teams in Class 3A square off in this nonleague contest.

Thursday — Coronado at Rancho, 3:30 p.m.

Two of the favorites in the Class 4A Sunrise League meet in the first of two matchups this season. The Rams beat Coronado three times last season, including two 1-0 wins.

TRACK AND FIELD

Thursday — Liberty at Coronado, 3:30 p.m.

The powerhouse boys Patriots’ squad visits a Cougars’ team primed for a big year. The roles are reversed on the girls side, as Coronado placed in the top 10 at state last season.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Tuesday — Bishop Gorman at Sierra Vista, 6 p.m.

The Gaels finished second in the Southwest League last season, but could be in line for the league title this year. Senior outside hitters Charles Pollnow and Will Hafen will make it tough on the Mountain Lions, who appeared in the Division I-A state tournament last season.

Tuesday — Centennial at Coronado, 6 p.m.

The Bulldogs are one of the Sunset Region’s most impressive teams so far this season. But can they hang with Coronado, a perennial Sunrise Region power?

Tuesday — Las Vegas at Palo Verde, 6 p.m.

Both teams are expected to be there at the end of the season. This could serve as a state final preview.

Friday — Arbor View at Las Vegas, 6 p.m.

Arbor View’s Trevin Clizbe will give the Wildcats all they can handle up front. But the home-court advantage might be the difference in this one. Las Vegas, as usual, will rely on its defense and grit. Expect Brandon Kampshoff to have a big day.
