More honors for Gallo, Hager

Bishop Gorman infielder/pitcher Joey Gallo and former Sierra Vista shortstop/pitcher Jake Hager have been selected to the Baseball America Postseason High School All-America second team.

Gallo, who will be a senior at Gorman next season, was named the Review-Journal’s state player of the year this season after he batted .471 with 25 home runs and 78 RBIs.

The Gaels right-hander, who recently was named to USA Baseball’s 18U National Team, also was 3-1 with a 1.12 ERA as Gorman won its sixth straight Class 4A state title.

Hager was named Gatorade state player of the year after he hit .547 with 11 homers and 57 RBIs as a senior.

Hager committed to Arizona State, but signed in June with the Tampa Bay Rays after he went 32nd overall in the draft. He has already played two games with the Princeton Rays in the Rookie Appalachian League.
