Palo Verde edges Grizzlies despite being no-hit

Kevin DeSoto’s ground ball in the middle of the infield plated pinch-runner Kyle Lozier with the only run Tuesday as Palo Verde’s baseball team was no-hit, but pulled out a 1-0, eight-inning home win over Spring Valley.
Yodai Nakamura drew a seven-pitch walk to start the eighth and was lifted for Lozier, who advanced to second on Kevin Smith’s sacrifice bunt.
Trevor Jackson appeared to strike out on a 2-2 pitch, but was awarded first on catcher’s interference to put runners on first and second.
Bradley Lewis struck out, and Michael Spada walked to load the bases.
Spring Valley’s Logan Mace came into replace ace Dylan Drachler on the mound and got DeSoto to hit a soft come-backer on an 0-1 pitch. The ball squirted past Mace, allowing Lozier to score.
Brett Bovee tossed seven shutout innings, striking out eight and walking one. Paul Wolfram pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the win.
Drachler struck out 14 and walked six in 7 2/3 innings of work.
Shadow Ridge 8, Durango 5 — At Shadow Ridge, Logan Hold struck out eight and allowed one run on three hits in six innings as the Mustangs beat the Trailblazers.
Tyler Burton was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, and Brady Hoskins was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Shadow Ridge, which took a 5-0 lead after two innings.
Travis Caskie scored four runs, and Jordan Hand scored three times for Shadow Ridge.
Scott Martinez hit a grand slam in the seventh inning for Durango.
Arbor View 5, Sierra Vista 2 — At Sierra Vista, Evan McMahan went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs and struck out 10 in six innings of work to lead the Aggies by the Mountain Lions.
Cameron Mormon went 2-for-4 with three runs scored for Arbor View.
Alex Kern was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Sierra Vista.
Silverado 7, Rancho 3 — At Rancho, David Kuzma was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Nick Kawano went 2-for-4 with two runs to lift the Skyhawks by the Rams.
Bryce Harrell was 2-for-4 and scored a run for Rancho.
Green Valley 13, Valley 5 — At Valley, Troy Cropper went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI, and the Gators used a seven-run seventh to pull away from the Vikings.
Christian Hall was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI for Green Valley, which had just eight hits, but took advantage of six hit batters and four walks.
Nick Schellenger was 3-for-4 with a double for Valley.
Western 4, Clark 1 — At Western, Edgar Reyes struck out 10 in six innings, and Osvaldo Escobar broke open a close game with a two-run double in the fifth as the Warriors topped the Chargers.
Javier Ruiz was 2-for-2 and scored three runs for Western. Josh Yocum struck out two in the seventh inning to earn the save.
Las Vegas 18, Canyon Springs 1 — At Canyon Springs, Nolan Cassell went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs, and the Wildcats scored 11 runs in the top of the fifth to breeze past the Pioneers in five innings.
Jose Sanchez was 2-for-3 with two doubles for Las Vegas.
Winning pitcher Carlos Galvan struck out six in four innings.
Faith Lutheran 11, Mojave 0 — At Mojave, Dakota Greenwalt went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs as the Crusaders beat the Rattlers in five innings.
Alex Jack and John Thomas combined on a two-hitter for Faith Lutheran.
Pahrump Valley 5, Cheyenne 3 — At Cheyenne, Chad Uyeno was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to help the Trojans egde the Desert Shields.
A.J. Segura was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Pahrump.
Cimarron-Memorial 7, Northridge (Colo.) 1 — At Cimarron, Micquel Robinson went 2-for-2 with two triples, a run and an RBI to help the Spartans top the Grizzlies.
Tanner McAninch went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Tyler Giovinco was 2-for-2 with an RBI for Cimarron. Nick Borowski was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Jayson Hicks went 2-for-4 and scored two runs for Cimarron.
Tech 10, Mountain View 6 — At Tech, Abel Martinez went 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs to lead the Roadrunners to a win over the Saints.
Trenton Van Kempen went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs for Mountain View.
