ROUNDUP: Bonanza edges Durango in baseball

Kris Bryant doubled and scored in the first inning and hit a home run in the third Friday to help Bonanza’s baseball team knock off visiting Durango, 2-1.

Bryant, who was 2-for-3, scored on Teddy Merich’s single in the first inning as the Bengals improved to 8-5 in the Southwest League and kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the Sunset Region playoffs.

Durango is second in the Southwest at 10-4, followed by Spring Valley and Sierra Vista, both 9-4. The top four teams advance to the playoffs.

Mike Sukeyasu hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for Durango.

Spring Valley 26, Western 1 — At Western, Jackson Morrow went 5-for-5 with a home run, a triple and seven RBIs to help the Grizzlies cruise past the Warriors in five innings.

Billy Bob Ward went 3-for-5 with a triple and a double for Spring Valley. Teammate Ryan Hendershot went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double.

Pahrump Valley 3, Desert Oasis 0 — At Pahrump Valley, Michael Gonzalez pitched a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and went 1-for-3 with one run to lead the Trojans over the Diamondbacks.

Sam Morrow went 2-for-3 for Pahrump Valley.

Valley 6, Eldorado 5 — At Eldorado, Marcus Mejia’s infield single drove in Mark Taylor for the go-ahead run in the Vikings’ win over the Sundevils.

Jesse Acosta was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Valley.

Chaparral 17, Canyon Springs 1 — At Canyon Springs, the Cowboys scored 13 runs in the fourth inning on the way to a five-inning rout of the Pioneers.

Steve Colon (3-for-4) and Ricky Perez (2-for-3, two doubles) had four RBIs apiece for Chaparral.

Cowboys pitcher Jordan January struck out seven in a two-hitter.

Green Valley 16, Cimarron-Memorial 7 — At Cimarron, Jordan Van Hoosier was 3-for-3 with two triples, a double, five RBIs and three runs to lead the Gators over the Spartans.

Tyler Blair went 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs for Green Valley.

Nathan Hale was 3-for-3 for Cimarron.

Faith Lutheran 11-10, Boulder City 1-0 — At Faith Lutheran, Terry Unruh pitched a one-hitter and struck out seven in the first game of the Crusaders’ sweep of the Eagles.

Alex Barnes was 4-for-5 with a home run, two triples, six runs and five RBIs in the second game for Faith Lutheran.

Virgin Valley 10-18, Moapa Valley 1-3 — At Overton, Jason Wittwer homered in both games to lead the Bulldogs to a sweep.

Wittwer was 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBIs in the first game. Terran Leavitt added four hits and three RBIs for the

Bulldogs, and Johnny Gleave and Zach Horlacher also had home runs.

In the second game, Anthony Morris was 4-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Bulldogs. Horlacher went 3-for-5

Matt Newton hit a home run for Moapa Valley.

White Pine 11-12, Mountain View 1-2 — At Ely, the Bobcats outhit the Saints 21-8 on the day on the way to a doubleheader sweep.

In the second game, Michael Johnson (3-for-3) and Levi Valdez (2-for-3) had three RBIs apiece for White Pine.

Tanner Peterson hit an RBI double for Mountain View.

Henderson International 10-13, Sandy Valley 2-0 — At Henderson International, Nick Powell struck out 12 in the opener as the Wolverines swept Sandy Valley.

Charles Pachas was 3-for-3 with two doubles and Logan Christie 2-for-4 for Henderson International. Christie and Keenan

Gladd-Brown hit two-run triples in the Wolverines’ five-run fourth inning.

Nathan Plaza went 2-for-4 for Sandy Valley.

Henderson International scored seven runs in the first inning of the second game, which lasted five innings.

Gladd-Brown and Powell each went 2-for-3 with a home run in the nightcap. Chrisitie had three RBIs.

The Meadows 17-13, West Wendover 2-17 — At The Meadows, the Mustangs won the opener in a rout but fell in 13 innings in the nightcap.

Indian Springs 11-11, Round Mountain 0-5 — At Round Mountain, Indian Springs collected a pair of Class 1A Central League wins.

Laughlin 21, Trinity 3 — At Trinity, the Cougars scored 11 runs in the fourth inning on the way to a five-inning rout of the Eagles.

Christian Kruse was 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs for Laughlin. Eric Chez also homered.

Trinity’s Avery Harden belted a two-run home run. Jamil Thompson went 2-for-2.
