ROUNDUP: Bonanza’s Franzese wins pitcher’s duel with Durango

Mario Franzese tossed a two-hit shutout in his first start of the year Monday to lead Bonanza’s baseball team to a 1-0 home win over Durango.

Franzese walked two and struck out eight, outdueling Durango pitcher Josh Hull, who threw a three-hitter and struck out five.

Hunter Davidson scored the game’s lone run in the first inning after leading off with a single, moving to second on a sacrifice, to third on a wild pitch, and coming home on Heriberto Orozco’s ground out.

Cimarron-Memorial 9, Faith Lutheran 7 — At Faith Lutheran, Kevin Dorantes singled home A.J. Hernandez in the top of the eighth to break a 7-7 tie as the Spartans edged the Crusaders.

Jonas Wellen added an RBI single in the eighth for the final margin.

Dorantes was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and also picked up the win in relief. Hernandez went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, and James Carraway was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Cimarron.

Faith Lutheran had tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Michael Kinkenon.

Kinkenon finished 3-for-3 with two runs, and Blake Matthias hit 2-for-3 with three runs for the Crusaders.

Sierra Vista 5, Reno 1 — At Sierra Vista, Blair Goldsack went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Jake Hager was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI to lead the Mountain Lions to the win over the Huskies.

Hager, Goldsack and Alex Estrella combined to limit Reno to five hits.

Pat Gallagher homered for the Huskies, who were 16-0 entering the game.

Legacy 9, Shadow Ridge 7 — At Legacy, Adam Thompson’s RBI double in the bottom of the fifth broke a 7-7 tie as the Longhorns sneaked past the Mustangs.

Shadow Ridge had scored seven runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game.

Joey Lauria was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, and teammate Donald Glover was 2-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI for Legacy.

Brandon Show homered for Shadow Ridge.

Palo Verde 11, Centennial 6 — At Palo Verde, Christian Centrella broke a 5-5 tie with an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth, and the Panthers added four more runs in the inning on their way to a win over the Bulldogs.

Centrella was 3-for-4 with two triples, a home run and three runs scored, and Matt Hutchings was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, two RBIs and one run scored for Palo Verde.

Centennial’s Loral Monson hit a two-run double and scored a run.

Desert Oasis 7, Pahrump Valley 1 — At Pahrump, Cody Schmidt went 4-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Diamondbacks past the Trojans.

Zane Killebrew tossed a seven-hitter, striking out six and walking one, for Desert Oasis. Matt Garrett was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double, and Jossaiah Raval batted 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Diamondbacks.

Rancho 12, Chaparral 0 — At Chaparral, the Cowboys never got a ball out of the infield as the Rams rolled to the easy five-inning win.

Winning pitcher Josh Gomez pitched a no-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks, and belted a double.

Roy Sipes and Zak Qualls each had two RBIs, and Brandon Pletsch and Scott Koenen added two hits apiece for Rancho.

Valley 15, Canyon Springs 5 — At Valley, Marcus Mejia went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Eric Herring was 3-for-4 with two triples and an RBI to lead the Vikings past the Pioneers in five innings.

Hansel Escamilla went 2-for-3 with a triple for Valley.

Kevin Rogers was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs to lead Canyon Springs.

Las Vegas 14, Desert Pines 4 — At Las Vegas, the Wildcats racked up 10 extra-base hits and cruised to the victory over the Jaguars in five innings.

James Allen and Robert Melendrez each went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored and Brig Jensen was 2-for-3 with a triple, a homer, three runs and two RBIs for Las Vegas.

Spring Valley 14, Western 2 — At Western, Josh Schuster, Tyler Kartler, Johnny Hernandez, Robby Brewster and Jose Rosales each had three hits to lead the Grizzlies past the Warriors.

Hernandez had two doubles, a homer and three RBIs. Schuster doubled twice and scored two runs, and Kartler drove in three for Spring Valley.

Winning pitcher Cameron Cole added two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs.

Daniel Buzzard went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Western.

Eldorado 10, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Eldorado, Alan Guerrero was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs to help the Sundevils to the five-inning win.

Lucio Arreola went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs, and Isaiah Hernandez was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs for Eldorado.

Johnny Wade pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts to get the win.

Foothill 8, Damonte Ranch 1 — At CSN, Eduardo Yanez went 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs to lead the Falcons past the Mustangs.

Kyle Moyes added a home run for Foothill, and five pitchers combined on a four-hitter.

Bishop Gorman 15, Clark 0 — At Clark, Wesley Denzler, Neil Lawhorn and Johnny Field each homered and finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs to lead the Gaels in a rout of the Chargers in five innings.  

Arbor View 22, Mojave 0 — At Mojave, Jason Smulo went 3-for-3 with a triple, a run and four RBIs, and Arbor View used an 11-run first inning on its way to a five-inning rout of the Rattlers.
