Roundup: Coronado wins in extra innings to earn bid in tournament championship

Coronado’s baseball team scored five runs in the top of the eighth to beat the Sunrise Mountain (Arizona) and advance to the championship of the Boras Classic in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Cade Printy scored on Kyle Hall’s RBI groundout to break a 4-4 tie. Taylor Darden added a two-run single and Cristian Herrera had an RBI single in the inning.

The Cougars also scored a run on an error and one more on a bases-loaded walk.

Jake McLean was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, three runs and two RBIs for Coronado. Herrera went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, Boston Mabeus was 3-for-5 for the Cougars.

Basic 3, Corona del Sol (Ariz.) 2 — At Scottsdale, Arizona, Trace Evans doubled home Kyle Turner with two outs in the top of the 11th to give the Wolves the win over the Aztecs in the semifinals of the Boras Classic.

Turner singled with one out and went to second on a two-out single by Garrett Giles.

Evans finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Turner was 4-for-6 with a run for Basic.

Giles pitched 3⅔ innings of relief to get the win. He allowed a run on four hits with three strikeouts.

Basic led 1-0 going to the bottom of the seventh, but Luke Eno’s RBI single forced extra innings.

The Wolves took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 10th on a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Dalton Miller. But the Aztecs tied it in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Matt Novis.

Durango 7, Sierra Vista 4 — At Durango, Justin Lucas went 2-for-3 with a home run, and Duke Pahukoa was 2-for-4 with an RBI-triple to help the Trailblazers topple the Mountain Lions.

Jason Salazar was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored for Durango.

Daniel Hauben was 3-for-3 with an RBI-double for Sierra Vista.

Desert Oasis 8, Bonanza 0 — At Bonanza, Aaron Roberts and Dustin Mansell combined on a one-hitter as the Diamondbacks blanked the Bengals.

Roberts struck out eight in six innings to get the win.

Cole Schaefer went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the offense. Steven Giatti was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Desert Oasis, and teammate Stephen Lasseigne went 2-for-3.

Rancho 17, Canyon Springs 2 — At Rancho, Joey Walls homered and drove in a pair of runs, and Matthew Baughn was 3-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs to help the Rams cruise by the Pioneers in three innings.

Edarian Williams was 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI for Rancho.

Damien Brown and Trevor Berkemeyer both had RBIs for Canyon Springs.

Arbor View 17, Mojave 2 — At Arbor View, Tyler Whitaker, Ryan Lystlund and Cameron Quincy each homered to lift the Aggies to a decisive victory over the Rattlers.

Jesse Pierce went 4-for-4 with three doubles, a triple and six RBIs for Arbor View, and Lystlund finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs.

Joshua Kelly and Logan Forepaugh had RBIs for Mojave.

Bishop Gorman 15, Spring Valley 2 — At Gorman, Max Prescott went 1-for-2 with a grand slam and five RBIs to help the Gaels to the five-inning win.

Austin Wells was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Tyler Curtis and Christian Lamar each went 2-for-3 with two runs for Gorman.

Connor O’Shea added a double and three RBIs for the Gaels.

Braxton Bruschke went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Spring Valley.

Sky View (Utah) 7, Boulder City 4 — At St. George, Utah, Cooper Kunz went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Bobcats over the Eagles in the Southern Utah Spring Kick-Off Tournament.

Rhett Armstrong was 3-for-4 with a run, and D.J. Reese went 2-for-4 with a run for Boulder City, which never recovered after yielding five runs in the bottom of the first.

Pine View (Utah) 9, Boulder City 5 - At St. George, Utah, Tanner Staheli went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs to lead the Panthers over the Eagles in the Southern Utah Spring Kick-Off Tournament.

Travis Hungerford and Teddy Lobkowicz each went 1-for-3 with a double for Boulder City.

Lake Mead 6, Indian Springs 4 — At Mountain View, Joey Johnson tripled home the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning to lift the Eagles past the Thunderbirds in the Spring Slam Tournament.

Dominic Desch was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Lake Mead.

Zack Williams, Isaiah Jones and Nathan Miller drove in one run apiece for Indian Springs.

Mountain View 9, Sunrise Mountain 8 — At Mountain View, Chris Murray’s RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning propelled the Saints to a walk-off victory over the Miners in the Spring Slam Tournament.

Hugo Fajardo, Nathan Santiago and Rason McClennan drove in two runs apiece for Mountain View.

Brian Ruiz had two RBIs for Sunrise Mountain.

Sunrise Mountain 16, Calvary Chapel 8 — At Mountain View, Jamie Escobedo was 3-for-3 with a double, a run and three RBIs as the Miners beat the Lions in the Spring Slam.

Cecil Hall was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for Sunrise Mountain. Ruiz, Isaiah Gonzalez and Cominick Corral each had three RBIs for the Miners.

American Fork (Utah) 5, Palo Verde 0 — At St. Geroge, Utah, Ryan Hardman took a perfect game into the seventh inning and finished with a two-hitter as the Cavemen defeated the Panthers in the Desert Hills Invitational.

Palo Verde’s Payton Cole and Jaret Godman each went 1-for-3. Austin Raleigh pitched four innings, allowing three runs on three hits, for the Panthers.

Pleasant Grove (Utah) 4, Palo Verde 0 — In St. George, Jacob Godman pitched four innings and allowed just one earned run, but the Vikings defeated the Panthers.

Brandon Ballantyne tossed 5⅓ innings and allowed no runs to earn the victory.

Jacob Godman also went 1-for-2 with a double for the Panthers.

Moapa Valley 5, SLAM Academy 4 — At Overton, Chase Hadley and Hunter Wrzesinski each had two hits as the Pirates edged the Bulls.

Pahranagat Valley 18, Beaver Dam 8 — At Alamo, Duston Stewart drove in a pair of runs to help the Panthers defeat the Diamondbacks in five innings.

Jesse Jones was 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of RBIs for Pahranagat Valley.

Pahranagat Valley 11, Wells 1 — At Alamo, Panthers pitcher Preston Higbee struck out four and walked six en route to a five-inning no-hitter and victory over the Leopards

Pahranagat Valley’s Stockton Maxwell was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and John Hansen went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
