ROUNDUP: Landis’ shutout leads Desert Oasis past Trailblazers

A.J. Landis tossed a five-inning, three-hit shutout Thursday to lead Desert Oasis’ baseball team to a 10-0 win over host Durango in the Lions Kickoff Classic.

Alex Tafesh belted a three-run homer, Cody Schmidt supplied a double and a triple, and Jordyn Compehos went 2-for-4 with a three-run double for Desert Oasis. 

Desert Oasis 9, Green Valley 6 — At Desert Oasis, Schmidt supplied a two-run double and an RBI triple as the Diamondbacks outslugged the Gators in the Lions Kickoff Tournament.

Compehos had two singles for Desert Oasis.

Michael Hillcoat went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs for Green Valley, which got two hits from Ryan Jackson.

Green Valley 4, Durango 3 — At Durango, Bradon Rogers hit a two-run double in the fourth inning, and the Gators defeated the Trailblazers in the Lions Kickoff Tournament.

Cody Milner led off the game with a homer for Green Valley, and Ryan Jackson went 6 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and three runs with nine strikeouts. Quintin Kohorst got the final out to earn the save.

Anthony Parry hit a two-run homer in the first inning for Durango.

Sierra Vista 7, Centennial 3 — At Centennial, Tyler Charlton tossed a six-hitter to lead the Mountain Lions over the Bulldogs in the Lions Kickoff Tournament.

Dustin Randall went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs for Sierra Vista, which got two hits apiece from Cole Crosby, Tyler Burdett, and Matthew Almaguer.

Ricky Koplow had two hits for Centennial.

Sierra Vista 20, Eldorado 3 — At Centennial, Nolan Kingham went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, and three RBIs as the Mountain Lions routed the Sundevils in five innings in the Lions Kickoff Tournament.

Burdett was 3-for-5 with a triple, and Crosby finished 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for Sierra Vista.

Trey Bayliss supplied two hits and two RBIs to lead Eldorado. 

Centennial 10, Eldorado 1 — At Centennial, James Harbour fired a one-hitter to lead the Bulldogs in the Lions Kickoff Tournament.

Harbour didn’t allow an earned run and struck out six.

Jake Portaro went 2-for-3 with four runs, and Hayden Grant was 2-for-4 with a run for Centennial.

Bonanza 3, Chaparral 0 — At Bonanza, Dave Estrada tossed a one-hitter and struck out seven to lead the Bengals past the Cowboys in the Bengal-Aggie Classic.

Brett Doyle was 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run for Bonanza.

Coronado 4, Palo Verde 0 — At Coronado, Brad Fogal hit a two-run triple, and Julian Burrola added a two-run double as the Cougars topped the Panthers in six innings in the Bengal-Aggie Classic.

Jackson Cofer tossed a four-hitter for Coronado.

Spring Valley 1, Silverado 1 — At Silverado, Dylan Drachler had nine strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings as the Grizzlies battled the Skyhawks to a 1-1 tie in eight innings in the Bengal-Aggie Classic. The game was called due to darkness.

Vincent Taormina finished 3-for-4 and scored Silverado’s run scored in the first inning.

Dakota Holquin’s RBI single in the second inning plated Logan Mace with the tying run for Spring Valley.

Western 13, Mojave 3 — At Western, Ryan Garbowski was 2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs to power the Warriors to the five-inning win in the Bengal-Aggie Classic.

Josh Yocum allowed one run on three hits in four innings with eight strikeouts to get the win. Ryan Guay added a two-run homer for Western.

Cimarron-Memorial 3, Snow Canyon (Utah) 1 — At St. George, Utah, Josh Nuernberg tossed six solid innings, with six strikeouts to earn the win for the Spartans in the Little Caesar’s Classic.

Nick Borowski smacked a two-run single in the top of the third inning for Cimarron, which got a double apiece from Tanner McAninch and Micquel Robinson.

Clint Gates had an RBI single for Snow Canyon.

Shadow Ridge 2, Faith Lutheran 1 — At Shadow Ridge, Logan Hold tossed a one-hitter to lead the Mustangs by the Crusaders in the Bengal-Aggie Classic.

Danny Turnbull was 1-for-2 with a double for Shadow Ridge, which scored twice in the fifth inning.

Andrew Hudgins’ third-inning home run was the Crusaders’ lone hit.

Arbor View 7, Canyon del Oro (Ariz.) 2 — At Arbor View, Ryan Chen threw six shutout innings to power the Aggies to the win.

Chen allowed three hits and struck out seven.

Nate Stepna was 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs, and Kaid Urban was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Arbor View, which got two hits from Nick Quintana.

Bishop Manogue 3, Basic 2 — At Basic, Alec West’s RBI single with one out in the top of the eighth gave the Miners the win over the Wolves.

Josh McLean was 2-for-4 for Basic, which scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game.

Tyler Long went the distance for Basic, allowing two earned runs on six hits. He also doubled.

Rancho 3-4, Desert Hills (Utah) 1-12 — At St. George, Utah, pinch hitter Gabe Villanueva doubled in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning as the Rams beat the Thunder in the first game of a doubleheader at the Desert Hills Classic.

Andrew Wieger allowed two hits and no earned runs before leaving with two runners on and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Keifer McLendon picked up the save, getting a line out and a strikeout to end the game.

Alex Jordan went 2-for-3 for Rancho.

In the second game, the Rams committed 11 errors and fell behind 8-0 after three innings.

Jose Verdugo homered, Bryce Harrell went 2-for-4, and McLendon was 2-for-3 for Rancho.

Del Sol 9, Mingus (Ariz.) 6 — At Mohave Valley, Ariz., Andrew Natale went 2-for-3, and the Dragons rallied with four runs in the top of the fifth inning to beat the Marauders at the Route 66 Tournament.

Nick Trujillo struck out five in four innings, and Dylan Greer pitched a scoreless fifth inning to earn the save.

River Valley (Ariz.) 9, Del Sol 3 — At Mohave Valley, Ariz., the Dragons fell behind 6-2 after three innings and lost to the host Dust Devils at the Route 66 Tournament.

Boulder City 11, Mohave (Ariz.) 4 — At Mohave Valley, Ariz., Tanner Howell went 4-for-5 with two RBIs to help the Eagles to the win in the Route 66 Tournament.

Corbett Fleming and Billy Barth each went 3-for-5, and D.J. Koopman doubled and drove in three runs for Boulder City, which scored four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-4 lead.

Mario Castanon got the win in relief, allowing one run on three hits in five innings.

The Meadows 11, Parker (Ariz.) 7 — At River Valley, Ariz., Justin Diamond hit a two-run double in the first inning to put the Mustangs up for good, and also pitched four innings to get the win in the Route 66 Tournament.

Mountain View 10, Monument Valley (Ariz.) 7 — At Mohave Valley, Ariz., Noah Van Kempen was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs to help the Saints to the four-inning win in the Route 66 Tournament.

Josh Stanton was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Mountain View.
