ROUNDUP: Martinez leads eight-run first inning as Trailblazers wrap up playoff berth

Scott Martinez belted a grand slam as part of an eight-run first inning Thursday to help Durango’s baseball team secure the Southwest League’s final playoff spot with a 12-2, five-inning win over visiting Bonanza.

Johnny Wright added two hits and three RBIs for Durango. Rey Cardenas threw a complete game, scattering five hits with six strikeouts and no walks for the Trailblazers, who got two hits and two RBIs from Jason Fazendin.

Daniel Romero finished 3-for-3 with a double and a homer to lead Bonanza.

Centennial 7, Palo Verde 3 — At Centennial, Casey Moses went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as the Bulldogs clinched the Northwest League’s No. 3 seed for the Sunset Region tournament by downing the Panthers.

Alex Blutman was 2-for-4 with two doubles, and Brett Bovee went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Palo Verde.

Cimarron-Memorial 9, Faith Lutheran 5 — At Cimarron, Jason Hicks went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and two RBIs as the Spartans clinched the Northwest League’s top spot for the Sunset Region playoffs with a win over the Crusaders.

Tanner McAninch was 2-for-2 and scored twice, and Matt Painter went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Cimarron. Josh Nuernberg was 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs for the Spartans.

Zach Skipper went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Faith Lutheran.

Legacy 17, Shadow Ridge 1 — At Shadow Ridge, Brayden Torres pitched a five-inning two-hitter with two walks and nine strikeouts and smacked a double, and the Longhorns used a 13-run fifth inning to roll past the Mustangs.

Avery Brandon went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, four runs and four RBIs for Legacy. Nick Martinez was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Alex Wenzel went 3-for-4 with two runs for the Longhorns.

Demetrios Philippou hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth for Shadow Ridge.

Arbor View 16, Mojave 1 — At Arbor View, winning pitcher Bryce Wildenberg belted two home runs and drove in four runs to power the Aggies past the Rattlers in five innings.

Jordan Godman, Zach Quintana and Tyler Peterson each homered for Arbor View, which got three hits, including a triple, from Brody Hinricksen.

Desert Oasis 13, Pahrump Valley 3 — At Desert Oasis, Tyler Condie was 3-for-3 with two triples, four runs and an RBI, and Jossaiah Raval went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and four RBIs as the Diamondbacks downed the Trojans in five innings.

Joe Paratore was 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs for Desert Oasis.

Bishop Gorman 25, Clark 0 — At Gorman, Trey Hoppel went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs as the Gaels completed a perfect Southwest League season by routing the Chargers in five innings.

Scott Campagna was 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, and Tyler Baker was 3-for-3 with a double for Gorman. Cameron Cole was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and three RBIs for the Gaels.

Four Gorman pitchers combined on a two-hitter.

Spring Valley 10, Western 6 — At Spring Valley, the Grizzlies ralled for four runs in the bottom of the fourth to come from behind and defeat the Warriors.

Western led 6-5 before the four-run inning. Dylan Drachler singled home the winning run, and Jose Rosales-Rodarte and Robby Brewster followed with back-to-back homers.

Rosales-Rodarte went 4-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs, and came on with two on and one out in the seventh to force the final two outs and record a save.

Brewster, Drachler and Michael Macove each added two hits for Spring Valley.

Anthony Chojnacki was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Western.

Rancho 6, Sierra Vista 4 — At Sierra Vista, Alex Jordan went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs as the Rams edged the Grizzlies.

Matt Almodover added a 2-for-4 performance with a triple and two runs scored for Rancho.

Dylan Pletsch came on with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh and got the final two outs to seal the win for Rancho.

Eldorado 8, Foothill 7 — At CSN, Jonathan Rodarte was 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs as the Sundevils nipped the Falcons.

Sammy Gonzales and winning pitcher Johnny Wade each went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Eldorado.

Anthony Lopez was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, and Bligh Madris went 2-for-4 with two doubles for Foothill.

Boulder City 12, Cheyenne 3 — At Cheyenne, Tanner Howell went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double, three runs and three RBIs to help the Eagles top the Desert Shields.

Lamon Harvey went 3-for-4 with a run for Cheyenne.

Mountain View 13-22, Agassi Prep 2-0 — At Doolittle Park, Ian Locke went a combined 6-for-7 with two home runs and seven RBIs to lead the Saints to a five-inning victory in the opener and a three-inning win in the nightcap.

Locke hit a grand slam in the third inning of the first game, and finished 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs in the second game.

Mountain View’s Logan Christie pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts in the first game, and Trevor Van Kempen fired a one-hitter with nine strikeouts in the second game.
