ROUNDUP: Shields throws no-hitter as Mustangs cruise to win in Utah tourney

Shadow Ridge’s Mitchell Shields tossed a five-inning no-hitter, walking two and striking out 10, as the Mustangs cruised to a 14-0 win over Uintah (Utah) in the Desert Winds Tournament in St. George, Utah.

Mike Wager went 1-for-3 with three RBIs for Shadow Ridge.

Josh Roelofs was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Bruce Butler was 2-for-2 with a triple for the Mustangs.

Liberty 12, Desert Oasis 3 — At Desert Oasis, Marcos Rivera went 2-for-4 with a pair of three-run home runs to lead the Patriots past the Diamondbacks.

Chris Bradford was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for Liberty, and teammate Michael Vargas went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Teddy Efthemeou and Manuel Menocal each homered for the Patriots.

Green Valley 12, Palo Verde 9 — At Green Valley, Chad Whiteaker went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs to lead the Gators past the Panthers.

Evan Van Hoosier was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Green Valley, which pounded out 16 hits.

James Durbin threw three scoreless innings to earn a save.

Matt Hutchings went 3-for-4 for Palo Verde. Cody Schuster was 2-for-4 and Kevin DeSoto homered for the Panthers.

Bishop Gorman 11, Spring Valley 1 — At Gorman, Cody Roper threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead the Gaels to the five-inning win over the Grizzlies.

Joey Gallo went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs to lead the offense.

Erik Van Meetren was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Johnny Sewald went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for Gorman.

Eddie Gomez homered for Spring Valley.

Foothill 13, Bonanza 5 — At Foothill, Gabby Soto and Tyler Morris each smacked a double and a home run as the Falcons routed the Bengals.

Dakota Wadkins went 4-for-4 with two doubles, and Anthony Lopez and Zack Steiber each added a double for Foothill. Dayton Kurian tripled and earned the win on the hill for the Falcons.

Joaquin Orozco was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Joe Merino supplied a triple for Bonanza.

Legacy 13, Valley 1 — At Legacy, Brayden Torres went 3-for-3 with three doubles, three runs and an RBI as the Longhorns cruised to a five-inning win.

Joey Wright was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs for Legacy, which scored seven runs in the first inning.

Del Sol 17, Chaparral 2 — At Del Sol, David Day went 2-for-3 with his second home run in two days as the Dragons used 13 hits to rout the Cowboys in five innings.

Brandon Montano was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Luis Grullon added two hits and three RBIs for Del Sol. Brandon Hubbs added two hits for the Dragons.

Steve Colon went 2-for-3 with a triple and Kyle Scott also tripled for Chaparral.

Moapa Valley 14, Western 3 — At Western, Dylan Mortensen was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to help the Pirates roll past the Warriors.

Josh Repp had a three-run homer for Moapa, and Jared Repp added a triple and three RBIs.

Javier Ruiz went 2-for-3 to lead Western.

Centennial 30, West Toronto (Canada) 0 — At Centennial, the Bulldogs scored 15 in the first and 11 in the third en route to the easy win.

Bryan Bonnell was 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Casey Moses went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs and three RBIs, and Adrian Rodriguez was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs for Centennial.

Laughlin 15-16, Calvary Chapel 4-3 — At Calvary Chapel, the Cougars took both games of a double-header against the Lions.

Tyler Morrison had a double in the first game and a triple in the nightcap for Laughlin, and Corey Beggs tossed a one-hitter to win the second game.

Steven Shigley homered in the early game for Calvary Chapel.

Sandy Valley 9-2, Beatty 6-10 — At Beatty, the Sidewinders and Hornets split a doubleheader.

Patrick Hudson went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead Sandy Valley to the win in the opener.

Beatty scored five runs in the bottom of the first of the nightcap and rolled to the win.

Jose Moreno and Isaias Flores each had two hits in the second game for Beatty.
