ROUNDUP: Virgin Valley tops Boulder City to clinch first place in 3A Southern League baseball

Virgin Valley slammed four homers in the top of the seventh inning on Friday night to break a 3-3 tie en route to a 9-4 win over host Boulder City in the first game of a baseball doubleheader.

The win clinched first place in the 3A Southern League for the Bulldogs.

Jason Wittwer, Anthony Morris, Zach Horlacher and Jonathan Gleave had homers in the seventh for Virgin Valley.

Horlacher was 3-for-4, and Travis Leavitt had a double and a triple for the Bulldogs.

In the second game, Cole Stubitz threw a four-hitter as Boulder City won 3-2 to salvage a split.

Stubitz struck out 13 and walked one.

Faith Lutheran 17-15, Moapa Valley 11-7 — At Overton, Bobby Burns slugged three home runs and drove in eight runs as the Crusaders swept a doubleheader from the Pirates.

Burns had a pair of homers in the the opening game, when Faith Lutheran rallied from an early 2-1 deficit to take a 17-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth.

Christian Lopez, who also homered in the opener, was 4-for-4 in the nightcap to help the Crusaders complete the sweep.

Moapa Valley’s Matt Vallet was 2-for-3 with two homers in the opener, and teammate Matt Newton went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double in the second game.

Rancho 12, Durango 11 — At Durango, Kevin Kline’s grand slam highlighted a six-run fourth inning as the Rams built leads of 9-4 and 12-7 before holding off the Trailblazers.

Kline was 2-for-4 with five RBIs, and Gabe Chavira went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs for the Rams.

Durango scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull within 12-11 and had the potential tying run on second base when Zak Qualls struck out the final batter of the game.

Danny Reynolds was 2-for-4 with a double and Cameron Coombs 2-for-3 with a double for the Trailblazers.

Chaparral 8, Cheyenne 7 — At Chaparral, Ricky Perez scored on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Cowboys over the Desert Shields.

Perez, who went 3-for-4, doubled to open the seventh and scored on Robert Evans’ grounder with one out.

Raul Jimenez went 4-for-4 with a triple, a double and three RBIs for Chaparral.

Marquise Hall went 2-for-3 with a home run for Cheyenne.

Cimarron-Memorial 5, Snow Canyon (Utah) 4 — At Cimarron, Kris Kaplan singled home Steven Lindsey in the bottom of the seventh to give the Spartans the win.

Kaplan, Taylor Doyle and Kaz Smith each had two hits for Cimarron.  Brad Oswald added a solo homer for the Spartans.

Green Valley 14, Eldorado 5 — At Green Valley, Jordan Van Hoosier went 4-for-4 with a triple, a double, five RBIs and three runs to lead the Gators past the Sundevils.

Taylor Jones, Evan Van Hoosier and Nick Libonati each had three hits for Green Valley.

Casey Roehr and Erik Larsen homered for Eldorado.

The Meadows 15-9, Calvary Chapel 5-7 — At Paul Meyer Park, Mike Wallace had five hits, including a home run, in the opener as the Mustangs swept the Lions.

Garrett Gosse had three doubles and pitched four scoreless innings in the nightcap.  

Henderson International 14-2, Beatty 8-8 — At Henderson International, Logan Christie went 3-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs, and Cole Fouch went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs to lead the Wolverines over the Hornets in the first game.

Jeff Sherrill pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts.

Isaias Flores, Ivan Maldonado and Joe Cerrano each had two hits as the Hornets rebounded to down the Wolverines in the second game.

Nick Powell was 2-for-3 with a home run for Henderson International.

Needles 9-6, White Pine 1-13 — At Ely, Stevie Kidd pitched a complete game to lead the Mustangs over the Bobcats in the first game.

White Pine rebounded to down Needles in the second game.

Lake Mead 25, Trinity 6 — At River Mountain Park, D.J. Johnson and Drew Erickson each had four hits and five RBIs to lead the Eagles to a five-inning rout of the Thunder.

Justin Singley was 3-for-5 for Lake Mead, which scored 13 runs in the third inning. The Eagles outhit the Thunder 25-3.

Indian Springs 18-15, Spring Mountain 0-5 — At Indian Springs, Adam Reinke went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs and two RBIs, and Antone Allen went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs to lead the Thunderbirds over the Eagles in five innings in game one.

Xavier Pena doubled twice and finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and one run, and Nick Vandever went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs.

Ian Burford went 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs, and Junior Baker went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, four RBIs and two runs as Indian Springs downed Spring Mountain in five innings to complete the sweep.

Pahranagat Valley 17-16, Sandy Valley 3-5 — At Alamo, Brady Whipple was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs in the first game as the Panthers swept the Sidewinders.

Lincoln County 10-13, Mountain View 0-1 — At Mountain View, the Lynx held the Saints to one hit in two games to sweep the doubleheader.

Mike Shinkle threw a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts in the first game.

In the second game, Ryan Loyd threw a no-hitter and struck out seven. He walked three in the first and allowed a run on a groundout.

Craig Rice went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs in the second game.
