Silverado stuns No. 1 Bishop Gorman in baseball opener

Braden Keathley’s two-out double in the top of the seventh inning brought home two runs as Silverado’s baseball team handed three-time defending state champion Bishop Gorman a season-opening 4-2 loss at the College of Southern Nevada on Thursday.

With two outs, Morgan Stotts was hit by a pitch, and Pierce Belaustegui singled to set up Keathley.

Keathley was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and two RBIs for Silverado. Stotts was 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, two runs and an RBI for the Skyhawks.

Stephen Manthei had two hits for Gorman, which opened the season ranked No. 1 in the nation by Baseball America.

Spring Valley 7, Coronado 6 — At Spring Valley, Chase LaComb doubled with one out in the bottom of the eighth to score Cameron Cole with the winning run.

Garrett Blair was 3-for-3 with two RBIs for the Grizzlies. Billy Bob Ward added two hits for Spring Valley.

Green Valley 3, Las Vegas 2 — At Green Valley, Chad Whiteaker’s one-out RBI single in the seventh inning scored Anthony Uran from third base with the go-ahead run as the Gators edged the Wildcats.

Daniel Levine pitched a complete game and gave up one earned run on six hits with nine strikeouts and no walks to earn the win.

Brett Harrison hit a two-run home run in the third inning for the Gators.

Basic 4, Faith Lutheran 3 — At Basic, Corey Gilligan doubled to center field, scoring Mike Feher with the winning run with one out in the 10th inning as the Wolves nipped the Crusaders.

Brandon Blake hit a three-run home run in the third inning for Basic.

Liberty 6, Bonanza 4 — At Bonanza, Jandy Eiroa doubled home the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning to break a 4-4 tie and give the Patriots the win.

Eiroa scored an insurance run on a double by Matt Wieman.

Wieman was 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBIs for Liberty. Robert Kinan and Dylan Rogers each added two hits for the Patriots.

Heriberto Orozco had a three-run triple in the first for Bonanza as the Bengals took a 4-1 lead.

Kyle Rynearson went the distance, allowing four hits and striking out nine to get the win.

Tech 11, Mojave 1 — At Mojave, Justin Vasquez pitched a two-hitter and went 3-for-4 to lead the Roadrunners to a five-inning win.

Vasquez gave up no earned runs and struck out nine. He added a triple and a double and scored twice.

Chris Sambol went 2-for-3 with a double, Edward Weist was 2-for-2, and Pedro Hall had a three-run triple for Tech.

Cimarron-Memorial 11, Snow Canyon (Utah) 1 — At St. George, Utah, Bradley Oswald hit a home run to start a six-run rally in the third inning to help the Spartans down the Warriors.

Oswald also pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing eight hits, to get the win

Kris Kaplan was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Dyllon Nuernberg had a homer and four RBIs for Cimarron.

Desert Oasis 8, Foothill 1 — At Desert Oasis, Brennen Stott’s two-out, two-run single led to a five-run fourth inning as the

Diamondbacks beat the Falcons.

Stott was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Bryan Morrison was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Arbor View 5, Eldorado 2 — At Eldorado, Buddy Borden allowed three hits and one earned run in six innings to lead the Aggies over the Sundevils.

Borden struck out 14.

Jacob Badger was 2-for-4 with a run for Arbor View.

Rancho 5, Legacy 2 — At Legacy, Roy Sipes’ two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning helped the Rams down the Longhorns.

Justin Neubauer pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and striking out six to get the win.

Kevin Kline was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Rancho.

Desert Pines 8, Western 4 — At Desert Pines, Angel Escobedo struck out 17 in a three-hitter as the Jaguars downed the Warriors.

Escobedo also went 2-for-4. Gerardo Cruz was 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI for Desert Pines.

Cheyenne 12, Canyon Springs 2 — At Canyon Springs, Jacob Hoff had three hits, including an RBI triple, as the Desert Shields defeated the Pioneers.

Jerraco Lindsey added two hits and an RBI, and Trevor Sosa gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts to get the win.

Chaparral 13, Clark 8 — At Clark, Raul Jimenez went 4-for-5 with a double and five RBIs to help the Cowboys beat the Chargers.

Ricky Perez was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs, and teammate Steve Colon was 3-for-4 with three runs for Chaparral.

Manny Estrada went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs for Clark.

Centennial 14, Pine View (Utah) 5 — At St. George, Utah, Loral Monson was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to help the Bulldogs beat the Panthers.

Sam Friend was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and four RBIs for Centennial.

Durango 12, Wooster 7 — At Reno, Danny Reynolds went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs to help the Trailblazers outlast the Colts in eight innings at the Mike Bearman Tournament.

Wooster tied the score with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning before Durango responded with six runs in the eighth.

Mike Sukeyasu was 2-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs for the Trailblazers.

Reno 5, Durango 2 — At Reno, the host school broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Reynolds was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Andrew Ferguson went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Durango.
