SMALL-SCHOOL BASEBALL: McClain O’Connor drives in four runs, helps Lynx stave off elimination

McClain O’Connor went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, and Nick Vincent threw a four-hitter with seven strikeouts as Lincoln County’s baseball team topped Pershing County 12-2 in six innings in the loser’s bracket final of the Division III state tournament Friday at Wooster High in Reno.
Lincoln County (21-8) will play Yerington (29-2) in the state final at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wooster. The Lynx have to win twice to claim the title.
McKinley O’Connor was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for the Lynx, who scored in every inning except the third.
After the teams each scored two runs in the first inning, Lincoln County scored four runs in the second inning to seize control.
Rhett King hit a two-run home run for Pershing County, which had six errors.
Yerington 8, Lincoln County 1 — Daniel Sciarani threw a seven-hitter with seven strikeouts to power the Lions by the Lynx in the winners’ bracket final earlier in the day.
Austin Camarena was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, and Michael Nicholas went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Yerington, which scored six runs in the sixth inning and took advantage of six Lincoln County errors.
Frank Toledo was 2-for-3 for Lincoln County.
Pershing County 14, The Meadows 8 — Pershing County scored seven runs in the third inning and defeated The Meadows in an elimination game at Wooster.
Winning pitcher Dominic Barter went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs for Pershing County.
The Meadows ended its season 15-10-1.
DIVISION IV
Pahranagat Valley 10, Indian Springs 0 — Brandon Burris gave up four hits and struck out 11 to lead the Panthers by the Thunderbirds in six innings in the winners’ bracket final at Reed High in Sparks.
Burris, who walked two, also went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Pahranagat Valley (25-3) will face Wells (19-13-1) in the state final at 9 a.m. at Wooster High. Wells must win twice to claim the title.
Garrett Higbee was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Shawn Wadsworth tripled for the Panthers.
Wells 14, Indian Springs 11 — The Leopards outslugged the Thunderbirds (13-8) in an elimination game.
