SMALL-SCHOOL BASEBALL: O’Connor leads Lincoln County over Mountain View

McClain O’Connor was 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs and an RBI on Thursday to help Lincoln County’s baseball team top Mountain View, 12-2 in five innings in the opening round of the Division III Southern League baseball tournament at Needles, Calif.

Colton Johnson was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and and a run, and Christian Florence was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI for the Lynx (20-4-1), who will meet Needles (15-8-1) in the winners’ bracket final at 1 p.m. Friday.

Preston Robbins was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, and Zach Shinkle was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Lincoln County.

Trenton Van Kempen was 3-for-3 with a double for the Saints (8-12), who will face The Meadows (18-7-1) in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Friday.

Needles 19, The Meadows 13 — Michael Miranda and Benny Robinson each drove in four runs, and Needles used an eight-run eighth inning to top The Meadows in an opening-round game.

Winning pitcher Aiden Shaver tossed three innings of relief and had three hits for Needles.

Adam Martinez had three hits and four RBIs for The Meadows.

DIVISION IV SOUTHERN LEAGUE

Troy Heath had three hits and two RBIs, and Indian Springs broke a 6-6 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh en route to an 8-6 win over host Pahranagat Valley in the opening round of the Division IV Southern League baseball tournament.

Alfonso Santangelo had two hits, and Nino Alvarez had three RBIs for the Thunderbirds (13-7), who advance to the winners’ bracket final at 1 p.m. Friday.

Shawn Wadsworth had three hits for the Panthers (18-6), who will play in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Friday.
