SMALL SCHOOLS: Faith Lutheran takes 1-0 lead in 3A series

Terry Unruh pitched a five-inning complete game with seven strikeouts and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI Friday to lead Faith Lutheran’s baseball team to a 13-3 win over visiting Moapa Valley in the opening game of a best-of-3 Class 3A Southern League playoff series.

Daniel Ward was 2-for-2 with a double, one run and one RBI for the Crusaders (12-20).

Kevin Cardinal went 2-for-3 with two doubles for Moapa Valley (14-17).

Virgin Valley 7, Boulder City 2 — At Mesquite, Anthony Morris was 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI, and Jason Wittwer went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI to lead the Bulldogs (24-6) past the Eagles (9-19) in the opener of a best-of-3 Class 3A Southern League series.

Terran Leavitt went 1-for-3 with three RBIs for Virgin Valley.

Both Class 3A series resume today at 10 a.m. and, if necessary, at 1 p.m. with the series winners advancing to the state playoffs.

Indian Springs 10, Pahranagat Valley 4 — At Alamo, Roger Ashley’s bases-loaded double helped the Thunderbirds knock off the Panthers to move into the 1A Southern Region title game.

Indian Springs plays Lake Mead at 10 a.m. today. If the Thunderbirds win, a second game would be played to determine the champion.

Indian Springs 14, Tonopah 11 — At Alamo, Matt Johnson had a home run to help the Thunderbirds defeat the Muckers.

Liberty baseball coach Rich Ebarb died Wednesday night, the school confirmed. Ebarb has a long coaching resume in Southern Nevada.
