2016-17 record: 8-17 (independent)

Returning lettermen (starters): Six (three)

Top players: G Moses Valencia (So.), G Collin Killoran (So.), F Uriel Gutierrez (Sr.)

Outlook: Valencia (10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists per game), Gutierrez (6.0 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and Killoran (5.9 ppg, 1.7 rpg) all return to help lead the Guardians this season.

In all, six lettermen are back.

“We lost some important pieces from last year’s team, but we have a group that is focused on getting better every single day,” Rolwing said. “We are looking forward to growing as a unit as the season progresses.”

The top four Class 5A boys basketball teams — Coronado, Liberty, Bishop Gorman and Arbor View — will play for the state title Thursday and Friday at the Thomas & Mack Center.
