2018-19 Western Boys Basketball Capsule

WESTERN

Head coach: Rudy Johnson, sixth season (22-101 career at Western)

2017-18 record: 4-19 (4-6 3A Sunset/fifth)

Returning lettermen (starters): Four (three)

Top players: F James Wade (Sr.), F Zyann Carranza (Sr.), G Robert Taylor (Jr.), G Keanu McGee (Jr.)

Outlook: The Warriors bring back three starters, but are without a proven scorer.

Wade (8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists per game), Taylor (6 ppg, 3 rpg, 3 apg), McGee (6 ppg, 3 2 rpg, 3 apg) and Carranza (4 ppg, 3 rpg) all hope to add to their totals.

“With the absence of the scorers from last year, we will be trying to find the replacements,” Johnson said. “There will be fewer players this season who are new to the program. Hopefully, the Western players can show the development of the program.

“The returners have a great challenge ahead with the league and will need all the help they can get. I believe they can get it done.”
