BOYS BASKETBALL: Alexander’s free throws give Cheyenne win over Western

Dewayne Alexander scored 14 points, including two free throws in the final seconds, to lead Cheyenne's boys basketball team to a 62-60 victory over visiting Western on Thursday.

After Alexander hit his two free throws, Western had a chance to win, but a 3-point attempt at the buzzer didn't fall.

Alexander also pulled down eight rebounds.

Kavon Williams and William Moore each scored 13 points, and Alahjan Banks had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Desert Shields.

Kwan Carter scored 15 points to lead the Warriors. D'Angelo Youngblood scored 13 points, and John Swayzer added 11 points for Western.

Bishop Gorman 88, Durango 55 — At Gorman, Zach Collins had 20 points, 13 rebounds and 12 blocked as the Gaels ran away from the Trailblazers in a matchup of top-four teams in the Southern Nevada Coaches Poll.

Charles O'Bannon had 26 points, and Christian Popoola added 16 points and 10 assists for top-ranked Gorman, which used a 50-26 run in the middle quarters to pull away.

Jason Landman had 17 points, and teammate Zyare Ruffin had 13 points for No. 4 Durango.

Palo Verde 79, Shadow Ridge 75 — At Palo Verde, Taylor Miller scored 33 points to lead the Panthers past the Mustangs.

Ryan Vogelei added 18 points for Palo Verde, which put the game away by going 8-for-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

Jerell Springer scored 21 points to lead Shadow Ridge, which also got 18 points from James Fuller.

Clark 64, Spring Valley 34 — At Clark, Trey Woodbury had a team-high 10 points, and the Chargers cruised past the Grizzlies.

James Bridges and Keyshawn Webb each finished with nine points, and Ian Alexander, Raemone Collins, Antwon Jackson each scored eight for Clark.

The Chargers opened the game on an 18-2 run.

Spring Valley's Eric Hansen led all scorers with 15 points, and Joseph Johnson added 10 points for the Grizzlies.

Desert Pines 58, Moapa Valley 22 — At Desert Pines, Capri Uzan scored 14 points to help the Jaguars defeat the Pirates.

Randal Grimes supplied nine points and six rebounds, and teammate Jalen Graves had seven points and six rebounds for Desert Pines.

Derek Cope scored nine points to lead Moapa Valley.

Chaparral 81, Sunrise Mountain 75 — At Sunrise Mountain, Richard Nelson scored 16 points to lead six double-digit scorers, and the Cowboys held off the Miners.

Robin Rosales had 15 points, and teammates Samuel Porras, Ronnie Hicks, and Marc Silas each added 12 points for Chaparral, which led 42-26 at halftime.

Trevor White led Sunrise Mountain with 21 points. Tyreke Robertson had 14 points, and teammate Tyri White scored 13 for the Miners.

Del Sol 61, Boulder City 48 — At Boulder City, Bo Beagle had 22 points to help the Dragons defeat the Eagles.

Jonathan Spearman added 12 points for Del Sol, which led 34-20 at the half.

Boulder City's Justus Greene had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Carson Balistere scored 11 points for the Eagles.

Virgin Valley 67, Tech 44 — At Tech, Zach Barnum scored 15 points to power the Bulldogs past the Roadrunners.

Marcus Saunders had 11 points, and teammate Andrew Memmott scored 10 for Virgin Valley, which led 41-26 at the half.

Dylan Sanglay scored 15 points to lead Tech.

Mojave 52, Sierra Vista 50 — At Sierra Vista, Richard Edwards had 18 points as the Rattlers edged the Mountain Lions.

Chrishawn Thomas had 14 points, including a key 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to give Mojave a 50-46 lead.

Maui SeraJosef had 14 points to lead Sierra Vista, which got 10 points from Lerone Gibson.

Pahranagat Valley 40, Adelson School 39 — At Alamo, Jacob Roemer hit the front end of a 1-and-1 with one second left to lift the Panthers by the Lions.

Adelson School missed a potential go-ahead shot in the closing seconds, and the Panthers grabbed the rebound. Roemer was fouled in the backcourt and hit the first shot before intentionally missing the second free throw.

Roemer had 12 points, and Culen Highbe scored 11 for Pahranagat Valley.

Jake Buchman led Adelson School with 15 points, and teammate Jalen Pitts scored 10.

Coral Academy 74, Quest Academy 33 — At Quest Academy, Isaiah Spears had 31 points to lead the Falcons over the Knights.

Ryan Djino added 16 points, and Kaleb Robinson scored 10 for Coral Academy.

Liberty Baptist 73, Adelson School JV 45 — At Innovations International, the Eagles defeated the Lions' junior varsity.
