BOYS BASKETBALL: DeMatha’s D.J. Harvey too much for Gorman

D.J. Harvey had 28 points as DeMatha Catholic (Maryland) defeated Bishop Gorman 73-66 in the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Massachussets on Saturday.
The 6-foot-6-inch Harvey, who has signed with Notre Dame added 14 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocked shots
Ryan Allen added 16 points, and 6-9 Josh Carlton, who has signed with Connecticut, had 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Stags, who are ranked 13th in the nation by USA Today.
Chuck O’Bannon led Gorman with 27 points, but was 1-for-8 on 3-pointers. Jamal Bey added 17 points, and Christian Popoola had 10 points, seven rebounds and 12 assists for the Gaels.
Montverde Academy (Fla.) 78, Findlay Prep 65 — At Springfield, Missouri, Rowan Barrett had 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Eagles over the Pilots in the Tournament of Champions.
Barrett, a 6-7 forward, is the top player in the Class of 2019 according to ESPN.com.
Andrew Nembhard added 14 points for Montverde, which outscored Findlay 21-10 in the third quarter. Rechon Black scored 12 for the Eagles, ranked No. 2 in the nation by USA Today.
P.J. Washington led the Pilots with 26 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Lamine Diane added 22 points and nine rebounds for fourth-ranked Findlay, which lost for the second consecutive day.
Green Valley 65, Sylmar (Calif.) 55 — At Panorama City, California, Steven Fojas had 16 points to lead the Gators over the Spartans.
Eric Johnson added 13 points, and Canyon Lewis scored 11 for Green Valley.
Valley 53, Tech 42 — At Valley, John King had 13 points to lead the Vikings over the Roadrunners.
Juan De Dios-Magana added 11 points for Valley, which took a 17-5 lead after one quarter.
Tyler Muwwakkil led Tech with 10 points.
The Meadows 63, Mountain View 48 — At The Meadows, Jake Epstein scored 10 of his 28 points in the third quarter to help the Mustangs top the Saints.
Mountain View led 23-22 at the half before The Meadows outscored the Saints 20-10 in the third quarter to take control.
Joe Epstein added 15 points, and Peyton Sachs had 14 rebounds for the Mustangs.
Mountain View’s Terrence Brooks led all scorers with 31 points.
Virgin Valley 60, Lincoln County 51 — At Panaca, Andrew Memmott led a balanced attack with 12 points as the Bulldogs defeated the Lynx.
Devin Cox added 11 points, and Jarett Titjen scored 10 for Virgin Valley, which had six players with at least nine points.
Elijah Harr led Lincoln County with 15 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Brady Lawrence also scored 15 points, and Kobe Walker had seven assists for the Lynx.
Simi Valley (Calif.) 89, Coronado 76 — At Panorama City, California, the Pioneers defeated the Cougars.
