BOYS BASKETBALL: Derrick Legardy, Pioneers win opener in Tournament of Champions

Derrick Legardy had 14 points Monday to help Canyon Springs' boys basketball team to a 64-55 win over Mount Tahoma (Wash.) in the opening round of the Tournament of Champions in Seattle.
Zaahid Muhammad added 11 points for the Pioneers, who expanded a 29-21 halftime lead to 49-34 after three quarters and held on.
Demetrius Smith led the T-Birds with 15 points.
Bishop Gorman 71, De La Salle (Calif.) 59 — At Rancho Mirage, Calif., Christian Popoola had 21 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals to lead the Gaels over the Spartans in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.
Charles O'Bannon added 20 points, and Zach Collins had 13 points, 14 rebounds, 10 blocked shots and five assists for Gorman, which outscored De La Salle 23-10 in the fourth quarter.
Ryan Kiley scored 10 for the Gaels.
Jordan Ratinho had 22 points to pace De La Salle.
Del Sol 66, Desert Hot Springs (Calif.) 53 — At Lancaster, Calif., Jonathan Spearman had 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Dragons by the Golden Eagles in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.
Myles Dunn added 16 points for Del Sol, which trailed 29-28 at the half.
Kwmaine Gordon led Desert Hot Springs with 22 points.
Catalina Foothills (Calif.) 68, Green Valley 56 — At Rancho Mirage, Calif., the Falcons topped the Gators in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.
Xavier Jarvis had 18 points and eight rebounds, and Canyon Lewis added 15 points and eight rebounds for Green Valley.
Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary (Calif.) 59, Palo Verde 57 — At Palm Desert, Calif., Taylor Miller had 30 points but it wasn't enough as Cardinals edged the Panthers in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.
Desert Pines 51, Dawson (Texas) 41 — At Lancaster, Calif., Capri Uzan had 19 points, four rebounds and five assists to lead the Jaguars to the win in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.
Greg Floyd added 15 points and five rebounds for Desert Pines.
Coronado 93, Pacifica (Calif.) 49 — At Ventura, Calif., Kennedy Koehler had 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Cougars by the Tritons in the Kiwanis Classic.
Jake DesJardins added 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Bryce Savoy and Travis Boman each had 12 points for Coronado, which led 60-24 at the half.
South Sevier (Utah) 65, Arbor View 62 — At Cedar City, Utah, Buddy Gardner scored 25 points to lift the Rams to an overtime win over the Aggies in the Steve Hodson Classic.
Dyson Heath, Porter Dowell and Caleb Barton each added nine points for South Sevier, which outscored Arbor View 12-9 in overtime after rallying to tie the game at 53-53 at the end of regulation.
Jarrod Burks had 22 points, and Jesse Vogel scored 21 for the Aggies, who led 51-45 with 2:30 to go in the fourth quarter. Arbor View shot 10-for-23 from the free-throw line.
Paloma Valley (Calif.) 73, Boulder City 53 — At Menifee, Calif., Blake Bouman, Josh Madrid and Demarco Prewitt each had 17 points in the Wildcats' win over the Eagles in the Paloma Valley Winter Shootout.
Tanner Montgomery led Boulder City with 14 points. Carson Balistere notched 11 points, Austin Wishard had 10 points and Justus Greene added 10 rebounds for the Eagles, who were outscored 39-28 in the middle quarters.
