BOYS BASKETBALL: Howard leads Findlay Prep to Hoophall win

Markus Howard hit five 3-pointers and scored 25 points Saturday in a 73-59 win over Athlete Institute (Canada) in the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass.
Carlos Johnson and O'Shae Brissett each added 13 points for the Pilots. Johnson had 12 rebounds and Brissett grabbed eight boards for Findlay, which outrebounded Athlete Institute 41-22.
Thon Maker led Athlete Institute with 16 points, eight rebounds and 10 blocked shots.
Palo Verde 77, Faith Lutheran 67 — At Palo Verde, Taylor Miller had 35 points to power the Panthers over the Crusaders.
Ryan Vogelei added 18 points, and Cole Hendershot scored 12 for Palo Verde, which was 34-for-44 from the free-throw line.
Blake Bell led Faith Lutheran with 23 points. Zach Friel and Elijah Kothe each added 10 points for the Crusaders.
Christ the King (N.Y.) 59, Bishop Gorman 55 — At Springfield, Mo., Jose Alvarado went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final seven seconds and finished with 16 points as the Royals held off a late rally by the Gaels in the fifth-place game of the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions.
Christ the King led 41-27 in the final minute of the third quarter before Gorman rallied to within 56-54 on Charles O'Bannon's 3-pointer with 15 seconds to play.
Alvarado split two free throws with seven seconds left to increase the lead to 57-54.
Gorman's Christian Popoola made the first of two free throws with three seconds left and missed the second, but the Royals rebounded, and Alvarado was fouled with one second remaining. He made both free throws to secure the win.
Jared Rivers, Tracy Cleckley and Tyson Walker each added 10 points for Christ the King, which shot just 13 of 27 from the line.
O'Bannon had 22 points to pace the Gaels.
Zach Collins added 19 points and 15 rebounds, and Popoola had 13 points for Gorman, which made only 4 of 21 3-point attempts.
The Meadows 57, Mountain View 51 — At Mountain View, Max Hisatake had 19 points, including a three-point play with five seconds left in regulation, as the Mustangs topped the Saints in overtime.
Hisatake scored four points in overtime to help The Meadows to a 9-3 advantage in the extra period.
Jake Epstein added 12 points for the Mustangs, who trailed 41-35 entering the fourth quarter.
Tyrell Brooks led Mountain View with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Tevin Gray added 13 pints, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Saints.
Virgin Valley 57, Pahranagat Valley 41 — At Alamo, Hogan Fowles had 17 points to lead the Bulldogs over the Panthers.
Zach Barnum added 12 points, and Marcus Sanders scored 10 for Virgin Valley.
Cody Williams paced Pahranagat Valley with 15 points. The Panthers were within a point at 27-26 at the half, but managed just 15 second-half points.
