BOYS BASKETBALL: Saunders, Virgin Valley stun visiting Desert Pines

Marcus Saunders scored 16 points, including making 1 of 2 free throws with six seconds left, as Virgin Valley’s boys basketball team stunned visiting Desert Pines 41-39 on Tuesday.

After Saunders hit the free throw, the Bulldogs inadvertantly fouled Desert Pines’ Coby Myles. Myles missed the first free throw, then intentionally missed the second. The rebound was tipped to the Jaguars’ Marckell Grayson, whose potential game-tying shot hit the rim.

Cody Burnside added 10 points for Virgin Valley, which clinched a playoff berth.

Myles had 16 points for Desert Pines, which lost for the first time this season in Sunrise League play.

Moapa Valley 50, Tech 32 — At Tech, Jay Mortensen scored 17 points, and the Pirates allowed only five second-half points in a win over the Roadrunners.

Koby Frei added 15 points for Moapa Valley, which trailed 27-23 at the half.

Elijah Wesley led Tech with seven points.

Del Sol 55, Sunrise Mountain 45 — At Del Sol, Noah Spearman had 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Dragons by the Miners.

JonRoss Juhas and Jonathan Spearman each had 10 points for Del Sol, which led 30-19 at the half.

Damon Heard had 21 points, and Tyri White scored 14 for Sunrise Mountain.

Chaparral 53, Boulder City 39 — At Boulder City, Marc Silas tallied 17 points to spark the Cowboys past the Eagles.

Ben Kirschbaum, Maharie Trotter and Richard Nelson had seven points apiece for Chaparral.

Tyler Newby led all scorers with 22 points for Boulder City.

Faith Lutheran 72, Sierra Vista 63 — At Faith Lutheran, Jaylen Fox scored 17 points, and Zach Friel added 13 points to help the Crusaders down the Mountain Lions.

Elijah Kothe added 11 points for Faith Lutheran, which led 36-23 at halftime.

Sierra Vista’s Maka Ellis led all scorers with 27 points, and teammate Jasper Cook scored 16.

Mojave 75, Pahrump Valley 44 — At Pahrump, Malik Abbott scored 15 points to guide the Rattlers past the Trojans.

Jordan Glenn had 12 points, and Daryl Adams added 11 points for Mojave, which outscored Pahrump Valley 44-23 in the second half.

Uriel Ramberg-Wiley scored 15 points, and Daniel Foss had 10 points to pace the Trojans.

Clark 69, Cheyenne 35 — At Cheyenne, Colby Jackson dropped in 21 points, and the Chargers made nine 3-pointers to down the Desert Shields.

Keyshaun Webb and Carter Olsen each added 10 points for Clark.

Bruce Gaitor led Cheyenne with eight points.

Spring Valley 59, Western 37 — At Western, Jalen Cannon and Curtis Owens had 11 points apiece, and the Grizzlies used a 24-7 fourth-quarter run to pull away from the Warriors.

Spring Valley led 35-30 at the end of the third quarter and pounded the ball inside during the fourth as Cannon had seven points and Owens scored five.

Carl Albert added 10 points for Spring Valley.

Zamond Washington led Western with a game-high 16 points.

Bishop Gorman 69, Durango 35 — At Gorman, Chase Jeter scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Stephen Zimmerman added 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Gaels rolled past the Trailblazers.

Nick Blair scored nine points, and Richie Thornton supplied seven points and seven assists for Gorman.

Durango got seven points each from Demetrius Valdez, Apollo Corley and Victor Ross.

Findlay Prep 72, Foothill 52 — At Foothill, Allonzo Trier fired in 35 points as the Pilots rallied to thump the Falcons.

Derryck Thornton added 16 points, and Horace Spencer scored nine for Findlay Prep. The Pilots trailed 18-14 after one quarter but stormed back with a 28-12 second-quarter spurt.

Torrance Littles had 16 points, and Kevin Woodland scored 14 for Foothill.

Agassi Prep 97, Laughlin 43 — At Agassi Prep, Deishuan Booker had 28 points, eight assists and six rebounds as the Stars routed the Cougars.

Akeemis Williams hit five 3-pointers and had 21 points, and Darius Coaxum scored 11 for Agassi Prep, which led 56-18 at the half.

Corey Anderson led Laughlin with 15 points.

Mountain View 48, Lake Mead 30 — At Lake Mead, Connor LeBoeuf had 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals to lead the Saints past the Eagles.

Tevin Gray had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Christian Bennett added 10 points for Mountain View, which raced out to a 29-14 halftime lead.

Dylan Graham scored 13 points to lead Lake Mead.

Spring Mountain 53, Pahranagat Valley 38 — At Alamo, Steve Jones poured in 24 points to lead the Eagles past the Panthers.

Shakori Clark added nine points for Spring Mountain, which used an 18-6 third-quarter spurt to pull away.

Tabor Maxwell scored 11 points, and Cody Williams had 10 points to pace Pahranagat Valley.

Adelson School 63, Sandy Valley 18 — At Adelson, Brandon Pappas led a balanced attack with 13 points as the Lions routed the Sidewinders.

Rom Izkovich added 12 points, and Jake Buchman scored 10 for Adelson, which led 24-8 after one quarter.

Lane Eastham led Sandy Valley with seven points.

Round Mountain 47, Tonopah 41 — At Round Mountain, the Knights defeated the Muckers.
