BOYS BASKETBALL: Smith, Wildcats defeat Vikings

Re’Kwon Smith scored 18 of his 30 points in the second half Monday, and Las Vegas High’s boys basketball team made 12 of 19 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off visiting Valley, 80-73.

Patrick Savoy scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half, and Tyler Bey added 10 points for the Wildcats, who kept alive their hopes of hosting a Sunrise Region quarterfinal game next week.

Las Vegas must beat Silverado and have Valley lose to Canyon Springs on Wednesday to earn the Northeast League’s No. 2 seed for the postseason.

Spencer Mathis had 27 points, and Shea Garland scored 17 for Valley. Cameron Burton added 16 points for the Vikings.

Canyon Springs 87, Green Valley 84 — At Canyon Springs, Jordan Davis scored 12 of his 33 points in the third quarter to help the Pioneers rally by the Gators.

Green Valley led 43-37 at the half, but Canyon Springs outscored the Gators 30-17 in the third quarter to take the lead.

Shaquile Carr scored 10 of his 22 in the third quarter for the Pioneers, who clinched the Northeast League title with the win. Gerad Davis scored 15 for Canyon Springs.

Kris Nicholas led the Gators with 25 points. Troy Cropper scored 22, Alexander Hicks 17 and Tyrell Crosby 10 for Green Valley.

Arbor View 93, Sierra Vista 80 — At Arbor View, the Aggies outscored the Mountain Lions 17-4 in overtime to get the victory.

Arbor View’s Charles Porter drove the length of the floor with four seconds to go in regulation and hit a layup at the buzzer to force overtime.

Justin Burks had 31 points, and Terrell Butler scored 30 for the Aggies. Isaiah Simmons added 14 points and 28 rebounds for the Aggies, and Porter scored 12.

Apollo Corley led Sierra Vista with 29 points, and teammate Mikko Balmes scored 25. Jeremiah Covington (12) and Christian Tirol (11) also scored in double-figures for the Mountain Lions.

Del Sol 79, Eldorado 69 — At Eldorado, Kyle Collins scored 21 points as the Dragons rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime and beat the Sundevils.

Brian Greer added 18 points for the Dragons, and Anthony Merchant had 12 points for Del Sol, which outscored Eldorado 17-7 in the extra period. Jonross Juhas had 11 points for the Dragons.

Jayveon Green scored 31 points for the Sundevils.

Foothill 80, Liberty 52 — At Foothill, Jalen Shepard scored 10 of his 15 points during a 30-9 second-quarter run that helped the Falcons clinch the Southeast League title with a win over the Patriots.

Matt Rapp added 15 points, and Torrance Littles scored 12 for Foothill, which got 11 points from Austin Starr.

Elijah Graves had 12 points and Noah Jefferson 11 for Liberty.

Palo Verde 81, Shadow Ridge 53 — At Palo Verde, Travis Gondrezick had 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Panthers recovered from a slow start and downed the Mustangs.

Chase Ruiz added 13 points, and Grant Dressler had 12 points and nine rebounds for Palo Verde, which trailed 13-5 after one quarter.

Preston Echols led Shadow Ridge with 19 points, and teammate Cameren Berube scored 12.

Coronado 68, Basic 61 — At Basic, Austin Morgan scored 23 points as the Cougars topped the Wolves.

Eddie Austin added 21 points for Coronado, which led 19-2 after one quarter and held on for the win.

Josh Villaros had 21 points, and Chandler Kamai scored 18 for Basic.

Durango 74, Spring Valley 58 — At Spring Valley, Darryl Gaynor had 24 points as the Trailblazers topped the Grizzlies.

Alex Arias added 21 points, and Drew Hammond scored 16 points for Durango, which led 20-8 after the first quarter.

DeVante Moten led Spring Valley with 20 points, and teammate Ryan Goecke scored 18.

Silverado 47, Rancho 42 — At Rancho, Joe Baldi had 12 of his 17 points in the second half to help the Skyhawks rally to top the Rams.

Michael Larson added 11 points for Silverado, which trailed 24-20 at the half.

David McKeever paced Rancho with 13 points, and teammate Jaylin Gaston scored 11.

Mountain View 59, Lake Mead 51 — At Mountain View, Tevin Gray scored 10 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter as the Saints outlasted the Eagles.

Connor LeBoeuf added 12 points for Mountain View, which outscored Lake Mead, 25-17 in the fourth quarter and secured its first playoff berth since 2008.

Dylan Graham had 19 points, and Drew Ramos made four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points for Lake Mead.
